Osaka is where Japan’s cat cafés began. Neko no Jikan opened in Kita ward in 2004 and is widely credited as the country’s first, and it is still open. Today the city has more than 60 cat cafés, and nearly half of them are rescue cafés, many in renovated wooden houses in the backstreets of Nakazakicho, Tenma and Tanimachi. The chains are there too, by the stations at Umeda, Shinsaibashi and Tennoji, along with cafés with cats among model railways and a cat-themed bathhouse where you can stay the night.

We checked every café below against its official site, Instagram or Google listing in October 2026. You can browse all of them on our Osaka cat café map.

How Osaka Cat Cafés Charge

Chains charge by the 10 minutes. MOCHA and MOFF charge for a first block of 30 minutes, then by the 10 minutes, with a daily cap. MOCHA includes the drink bar; MOFF asks you to order a drink. They are the cheapest way to drop in for half an hour.

Most other cafés sell fixed courses, from 30 minutes to three hours, usually with a drink: an hour costs about ¥1,100 to ¥2,000. For a long visit, look for a weekday free-time plan.

The cheapest are neighbourhood and rescue cafés. Cafe&Bar Manul’s cat room costs ¥550 an hour plus an order, HOGOKEN CAFE ¥990 with no time limit, and Goo, Tenten and Mori no Nekoya ¥1,000 to ¥1,200 an hour.

House rules are stricter than in most cities. Most cafés want you to wear socks (several sell them at the door), many don’t let you pick the cats up, and some turn away visitors who have just been to another animal café, have stroked street cats, or are wearing strong perfume or have been drinking. Several are cash only.
