It opened in September 2018 and has been run since 2020 by a mother-and-daughter team. The cafe serves espresso drinks, baked goods, paninis and other light lunches, and sells cat-themed gifts and work by a featured local artist. Behind the cafe is a cat lounge where foster cats from partner rescues in Ontario and abroad live while they wait for adoption, and the cafe has placed more than 2,800 cats since it opened. Lounge visits are 55-minute sessions that start on the hour, with an entry fee per person and free entry for children under 3. Booking ahead is recommended, though walk-ins are taken when there is space. Visitors remove their shoes, wear socks in the cat room and sign a waiver. Winnipeg, Manitoba

Cleocatra ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌‌​‌​​‌​​‌​​‌‌‌‌‌‌‌​​‌​‌‌​​​​​⁠Café Portage is the original location of Cleocatra, a Vietnamese-style cat cafe on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg's West End. It opened in May 2023 in the former Scout Coffee + Tea space, with a vintage-styled cafe serving Vietnamese coffee, matcha, smoothies and desserts. A separate cat room houses around 10 to 15 adoptable rescue cats. Cat room admission is a timed 50-minute session per person, booked online; reservations are recommended on weekends and holidays, and walk-ins are taken when there is space. Calgary, Alberta

Regal ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​​​‌​​‌​‌​​​​‌‌​‌‌‌‌​​‌​​‌‌​​‌⁠Cat Café is a cat cafe on 10 Street NW in Kensington, Calgary, a short walk from Sunnyside CTrain station. It opened in 2017 as the city's first cat cafe, and since June 2022 it has been owned by the MEOW Foundation, a Calgary cat rescue charity, so proceeds from drinks, food and cat visits go to the rescue. It serves locally roasted coffee, tea and baked goods. Six to twelve adoptable MEOW cats, rotated every few weeks, live in the Kitty Kingdom, a separate room with its own ventilation that can be seen from the cafe. Visits to the cat room are 30-minute sessions with a fee that is higher on weekends; reservations are recommended and socks are required. More than 1,500 cats have been adopted from the cafe. Events include cat yoga and paint nights.

Stratford, Ontario

Alley ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​‌​​​‌​‌​​‌​‌‌​​​​‌​‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌‌⁠Cat Cafe is a cat cafe on Market Place in downtown Stratford, beside Market Square and City Hall. It has a small cafe at the front and a separate kitty lounge behind a glass wall, shared by eight resident cats and adoptable foster cats from rescues including Purrfect Haven Cat Rescue in London, Arthur Animal Rescue and Rags to Riches Cat Rescue. More than 500 cats have been adopted through the cafe. Lounge visits are charged by the hour, with a lower rate for children and multi-visit passes. Reservations are strongly recommended, and walk-ins are taken when there is room. Visitors wear socks and sign a waiver, and children under 16 stay with an adult. Drinks may go into the lounge, while food stays in the cafe, which serves waffles, bagels, soups, sandwiches and all-day breakfast. The cafe section is dog friendly and wheelchair accessible.

Quebec City

Café ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​​‌​‌‌‌​​‌‌‌‌​‌‌‌‌​‌‌‌​‌​​​‌‌​‌⁠Félin Ma Langue Aux Chats is a cat cafe on Rue Saint-Paul in the Vieux-Port area of Old Québec, near the Marché du Vieux-Port and the Old Port waterfront. The cafe is decorated like a chalet living room, and its resident animals are 14 purebred cats and one small dog that roam freely among the tables. There is no separate cat room: visitors order from the menu of coffee, tea, lattes, homemade lemonade, hot chocolate, desserts, paninis, grilled cheese, soups and salads, with vegetarian and vegan options, and the cats come and go as they please. Shoes are removed in the entrance vestibule, children are welcome if supervised, and the cats are not for adoption. The cafe opened in 2015, and its owner, a Canadian Armed Forces veteran who took it over in 2019, runs it with an animal-therapy mission and employs people on the autism spectrum or living with mental health conditions. It is open every day.

Fredericton, New Brunswick

The ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​‌​​​​​​​‌​​​‌​‌​​​‌‌​‌‌‌​​‌‌​⁠Purrfect Cup is a cat cafe on Fredericton's north side, at Two Nations Crossing near Cliffe Street. Opened in October 2018 as New Brunswick's first cat cafe, it has a coffee and espresso bar at the front serving locally roasted Whitney Coffee Co. beans, bagels and baked goods, and a separate cat lounge at the back. The lounge houses rescued cats and kittens from shelters around the province, including St. George Animal Shelter and Dunroamin' Stray & Rescue, and all are adoptable through their shelters. Entry to the lounge is charged per hour, with a lower rate for children, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Booking ahead is recommended, especially at weekends, and some walk-in spots are kept for same-day visits. Shoes come off in the lounge, visitors are asked not to pick up the cats, and drinks can be taken in.

It opened in May 2022 as the city's first cat cafe and is owned by Sydney Sylvester. Around 20 adoptable cats roam freely in a cat room behind double doors, and they come from the Battlefords Humane Society; visitors who want to adopt apply through the cafe. Coffee, tea, soft drinks and baked goods are sold for dine-in or takeout. Entry is a flat fee per person with a lower youth rate, and visitors can stay as long as they like. Visits are walk-in only, with no reservations. Children must be actively supervised, with a limit of two children per adult. The cafe also hosts visiting groups from seniors' and special-care homes.

Regina, Saskatchewan

Excalipurr ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​‌‌​​​‌​‌‌​‌‌‌​‌​​​‌‌‌​‌‌​​​‌​‌⁠Cat Cafe is a cat cafe in a character building on Albert Street in Regina's Cathedral area, opened in 2017. It serves specialty coffee and vegetarian food, including custom cat-themed cakes and cupcakes, in a cafe area kept separate from the cat room. The cat room usually holds 15 to 20 adoptable cats and kittens, currently from SCRAPS, a Moose Jaw rescue focused on stray and feral cats, and visitors may bring their drinks and food in with them. Entry is a small fee for a 45-minute session, with a family rate and discounted Tuesdays. Reservations by phone or online are recommended, and walk-ins are accepted when there is space. Winnipeg, Manitoba

Annie's ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​​​‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​‌‌‌​​​​​​​​‌‌‌​​‌‌⁠Attic is a thrift shop and cat cafe on Main Street in Winnipeg's North End, run in support of D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre (D'Arcy's ARC), a local cat and dog rescue charity. It opened in 2021 as the city's first combined thrift store and cat cafe. The shop sells second-hand clothing, household goods and other donated items, and a small cafe counter serves coffee and baked goods from Goodies Bake Shop and Gunn's Bakery. A separate cat lounge holds adoptable cats from D'Arcy's ARC, and entry is by a small minimum donation. Reservations are not taken, and time limits may apply when the lounge is busy. Cats that visitors want to adopt are adopted through D'Arcy's ARC. All proceeds from the shop, cafe and lounge go to the rescue.

Sault Ste Marie, Ontario

The ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌‌​​‌​‌‌‌​​​​​​‌‌‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌​‌​⁠Sault's Cat-urday Cafe is the first cat cafe in Sault Ste. Marie, set inside Thyne's Family Bakery on Gore Street, a few blocks north of the downtown Queen Street strip. Visitors order at the bakery, which has been baking in the city since 2004 and serves specialty coffee, tea, sandwiches, soups, pastries, ice cream and shakes, then take their food into a separate cat lounge behind double doors. The cats come from the local rescue T.A.A.G. (The Animal Assistance Group) and are all available for adoption, with applications handled by the rescue. Lounge sessions run for 50 minutes with a small entry fee per person, and children under 4 enter free. Walk-ins are accepted when there is room, but calling ahead is recommended on weekends and for groups. Everyone signs a waiver, and children under 6 need one adult each. The lounge has colouring pages, puzzles and board games, and hosts events such as cat crafting, paint nights, trivia and cribbage.

Niagara Falls, Ontario

Niagara ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌‌​​​‌‌​​‌‌​​‌‌​​‌​‌‌‌​‌​⁠Falls Cat Cafe is a family-run cat cafe and restaurant on Queen Street in downtown Niagara Falls. Opened in autumn 2024 as the first cat cafe in the Niagara Region, it serves a full menu of brunch dishes, grilled cheese sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts in its dining room. The cats live in a separate enclosure with petting areas, cozy seating and a selfie wall, which diners and non-diners can enter for a fee charged per 30 or 60 minutes. Drinks are allowed in the cat room but food is not, every visitor must sign a paper liability waiver, and children 12 and under must stay with an adult. All the cats come from local rescues, mainly Pets Alive Niagara, and can be adopted on site; the cafe has rehomed more than 150 cats. Reservations are made by phone and are recommended, especially at weekends.
