The Sault's Cat-urday Cafe
The Sault's Cat-urday Cafe is the first cat cafe in Sault Ste. Marie, set inside Thyne's Family Bakery on Gore Street, a few blocks north of the downtown Queen Street strip. Visitors order at the bakery, which has been baking in the city since 2004 and serves specialty coffee, tea, sandwiches, soups, pastries, ice cream and shakes, then take their food into a separate cat lounge behind double doors. The cats come from the local rescue T.A.A.G. (The Animal Assistance Group) and are all available for adoption, with applications handled by the rescue. Lounge sessions run for 50 minutes with a small entry fee per person, and children under 4 enter free. Walk-ins are accepted when there is room, but calling ahead is recommended on weekends and for groups. Everyone signs a waiver, and children under 6 need one adult each. The lounge has colouring pages, puzzles and board games, and hosts events such as cat crafting, paint nights, trivia and cribbage.

Christie's Cat Cafe
West Branch, Michigan155 mi / 250 km
Christie's Cat Cafe, also known as Christie's Kitty Cafe, is a volunteer-run cat lounge at the home of Claws and Paws Rescue on South Valley Street in West Branch, down the road from Irons Park. The rescue bought the building in 2023 and named the cafe after co-founder Mary Koliba's daughter, Christie Johnson, who loved rescuing cats and a good cup of coffee. The lounge serves as a foster home for up to seven cats and kittens waiting for adoption through Claws and Paws, a nonprofit no-kill rescue that has rehomed more than 1,200 dogs and cats since 2012. Coffee is offered at a donation-based counter, and visitors may bring their own food and drinks, a laptop or a book and settle in with the cats. Adoption applications are handled by the rescue.

Karma Kat Cafe
Mount Pleasant, Michigan203 mi / 326 km
Karma Kat Cafe is a cat lounge on East Broadway Street in Mount Pleasant near Central Michigan University. Founded in 2018, it is a state-licensed animal shelter run by the nonprofit Karma Kat Rescue, and its cats live together cage-free in a communal lounge while they wait for homes; more than 1,000 have been adopted. Visitors pay a small admission and can stay as long as they like. Reservations are strongly recommended because the cafe limits the number of people per cat, and walk-ins are not always possible. Everyone signs a waiver. A few drinks and snacks are sold in the waiting room, and outside food is allowed in the lounge, though not for the cats. All adoptable cats are fixed, microchipped and vaccinated. The cafe holds low-cost spay and neuter clinics twice a month and hosts painting, yoga and bingo with the cats.
