La Gatoteca

La Gatoteca is a cat lounge and adoption centre in central Madrid, on Calle del Duque de Rivas near Plaza de Tirso de Molina, a short walk from Tirso de Molina and La Latina metro stations. It belongs to ABRIGA, a non-profit cat rescue association, and opened in Lavapiés in October 2013 as the first cat cafe in Spain and, after closing that site in 2020, reopened at its current address in 2021. Around 24 adult rescue cats live in a bright salon with climbing furniture and toys, all looking for homes. Visits are booked online in advance as one-hour or half-hour slots, with a self-service soft drink included, and only 12 visitors are admitted at a time. Children up to 12 come with an adult, and visitors may not pick up or feed the cats. The association also sells cat products and runs educational activities.

Espai de Gats

Espai de Gats is a non-profit cat café and adoption centre on Carrer de Terol in the Vila de Gràcia, about six minutes on foot from Fontana metro (L3) and eight from Joanic (L4). Opened in July 2016, it is the longest-running cat café in Barcelona. The association behind it takes in adult cats from shelters and refuges, often passed over in favour of kittens, and around ten of them live in the ground-floor space while they wait for a home. Visits last one hour and must be booked and paid in advance on the website; the fee goes to the cats' care, and groups of more than four need to email first. The café menu is entirely vegan, with coffee, teas and homemade cakes paid separately. Visits are recommended for children aged four and over, with one adult for every two minors. Polineko
Alcala de Henares, Madrid
Polineko is a neko cafe and cat adoption centre in Alcalá de Henares, east of Madrid, now on Calle de Zaragoza after moving from its earlier premises on Camino de la Esgaravita. It is run by A.P.A. Neko Madrid, a volunteer animal welfare association that rescues abandoned and mistreated cats, places them in foster homes for veterinary care and then brings them to the cafe to meet potential adopters. Around 18 cats live in the lounge, each with its own name and story. Visitors book a session online and pay a donation that includes a drink, such as organic coffee or herbal tea, and can stay with the cats in the afternoon. Adoption follows the association's own process, which requires netting on windows and balconies. La Gatera - Cat Café

La Gatera is a cat cafe on Calle Vara de Rey in the historic centre of Murcia, and was the first cat cafe in the region when it opened in 2022. Visitors share the cafe with rescued cats and kittens, all of them up for adoption through the Protectora Ayuda Animal Murcia, whose volunteers handle the adoption process. Entry is a ticket per person that includes the first drink, with no time limit. Tables can be reserved online for the first part of the morning and afternoon sessions; after that, seating is first come, first served. The menu has coffee, infusions in cat-shaped cups, cinnamon rolls, alfajores and vegan options. Momotaro Cat Café

Momotaro Cat Café is a cat café on Avinguda d'Estrasburg in Sabadell, about 15 minutes on foot from Sabadell Nord station, served by Rodalies R4 and FGC S2 trains from Barcelona. Opened in December 2024 and inspired by Japanese cat cafés, it works with the Lliga Protectora d'Animals de Sabadell: every cat in the lounge comes from the shelter and is available for adoption, including older cats and cats with special needs, and dozens have been rehomed since it opened. Entry is a small fee, with food and drink ordered on top, from coffee and breakfasts to afternoon snacks, cheesecakes and other homemade cakes, with vegan options. The cat area is separated from the drinks counter by double doors, guests wash their hands on the way in and out, and the cats have a room of their own to retreat to. Kitty Cat Café – Refugio de Gatos
La Linea de la Concepcion, Andalusia
Kitty Cat Café is a cat cafe and rescue refuge in a large converted unit on Calle del Velero in the El Zabal industrial estate of La Línea de la Concepción, a short drive north of the town centre and the Gibraltar border. Opened in April 2025 by two local residents, it has a cafe with a terrace, a spacious lounge where dozens of rescued cats from La Línea and the Campo de Gibraltar roam freely, and a separate care area for nursing mothers and cats under treatment. All cats are neutered, vaccinated and tested. Casual visitors pay an entry fee that includes a drink, and meals are served in an area away from the cats. Children under five are not admitted to the lounge. Cats can be adopted after screening or sponsored, and the refuge welcomes volunteers and donations of food and supplies.

Oh My Cat! Salón con Gatos

Pingu Cat Cafè

Pingu Cat Cafè is a cat café on Carretera de Montcada in Terrassa, about nine minutes on foot from Terrassa Rambla station on the FGC S1 line from Plaça de Catalunya. Opened in July 2022, it acts as a foster home for cats and kittens from several animal associations: they live in the café until a family adopts them, and then new cats arrive. The cats have a quiet room they can retreat to when they want a break from visitors. There is no entry fee, but each visitor orders at least one drink or item. The menu leans Japanese, with dorayaki, taiyaki and mochi alongside café drinks, plus vegan toasties and vegan chocolate spread. Reserving a table is recommended. The team takes the café's merchandise to manga and comic conventions around Catalonia and sometimes closes on those weekends, so it is worth checking Instagram before travelling.

La Gateria

La Gateria is a volunteer-run cat café and second-hand bookshop on Carrer de les Navas de Tolosa in the Sant Andreu district, three minutes on foot from Navas metro (L1). It is run by its own cat rescue association, and every cat living there, many of them born in street colonies, is up for adoption. Only seven guests are allowed in at a time. Visits are booked and prepaid online for a set session window, and session times change from month to month with the volunteers' availability. Some weekday mornings are set aside for quiet co-working sessions with the cats nearby. The plant-based menu includes coffee, chai lattes and croissants, paid separately, and second-hand books and tote bags are sold to support the rescue.
