Cats in Need Menorca
Es Castell, Balearic Islands
Cats in Need Menorca is a small cat rescue with a cat house open to visitors at Sínia des Riera, a rural settlement in the municipality of Es Castell, a short drive south-east of Maó. The charity has neutered, fed and cared for Menorca's stray cats since 1999, and the house is home to rescued cats too ill, frail or vulnerable to return to the street, around two dozen at a time. During the twice-weekly visiting hours, visitors can sit with the cats, stroke them, give them treats and hear their rescue stories, and children are welcome. Entry is free. A small gift shop selling cards, mugs and other cat-themed items, together with donations, pays for food and vet care. Some of the cats can be adopted. There is no food or drink service, and visitors should make sure no cats slip out when opening the doors.
