El Gato Coffeehouse
Houston, Texas
El Gato Coffeehouse is a cat cafe in a converted house on Pecore Street in Houston's Woodland Heights, with drinks and food prepared in a shipping container beside it. Renée Reed, a CPA, opened it in spring 2017 as Houston's first cat cafe, funded in part through Kickstarter, and it works alongside the nonprofit El Gato Charities; all of its cats are adoptable. Visits cost $18 per person for an hour, with reservations recommended and walk-ins taken as space permits. Children must be over 5, and those under 16 need an adult. The cafe has a limited drink and food menu; guests may bring their own drinks but not food. Reed teaches private yoga with the cats, and the cafe also runs Painting with Cats classes and hosts private group visits and children's birthday parties for ages 9 and up. It is open in the afternoons and closed on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Charming Cat Cafe
Lewisville, Texas
The Charming Cat Cafe operates as The Charming Cat Corner inside The Vista Mall in Lewisville, at the northwest corner of I-35E and the Sam Rayburn Tollway, on the lower level near the Cinemark theater and across from Zion Market. It opened on December 5, 2015, and was founded by Bev Freed, who also founded Kitty Save, the nonprofit rescue that provides its cats, all of which are available for adoption. With a food court nearby, it serves no food or drinks. The space is set up like a home with themed rooms, including a Godswood inspired by Game of Thrones, a gothic Dragonstone room, a bright Tropical Paradise room, a Graffiti Room for shy cats and private suites, with classical music playing throughout. Admission is $14 for 30 minutes or $17 for an hour, with subscriptions available; reservations are not required, though prepaid online bookings get priority. Cat visiting hours end at 6 PM, or 5 PM on Sundays. All visitors sign a liability release, signed by a parent or guardian for children.

Sun City Kitty
El Paso, Texas
Sun City Kitty is a cat cafe on the second level of the Shoppes at Solana, the former Sunland Park Mall, on Sunland Park Drive in west El Paso. It opened in May 2022 and is a certified rescue partner of El Paso Animal Services, and almost all of its cats, mostly adults, are available for adoption after spaying or neutering and vaccination. Visitors can walk in or book time in the cat lounge online; cat time costs $7 for 30 minutes or $10 for an hour, with a buy-one-get-one-free offer on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 4 PM and discounts for mall employees and first responders. The cafe serves coffee from 2Ten Coffee Roasters, tea and lemonade, and sells toys and cat-themed gifts. Adopters book an appointment, fill in an application and wait 24 hours before taking a cat home. The same owners run Chile City Kitty at the Mesilla Valley Mall in Las Cruces.

Purr-fecto Cat Lounge

Purr-fecto Cat Lounge is a cat lounge on South Lamar Boulevard in South Austin. It opened in July 2022 and works with Texas rescues, mainly Fuzzy Texan Animal Rescue and Kingdom Rescue, whose adoptable cats and kittens live in the lounge; more than 1,900 have been adopted. Visits are booked online as 30-minute or 70-minute sessions, with a separate ticket for each guest. Children must be 6 or older, except on a monthly Tiny Tots Day open to all ages, and visitors may not bring their own cats. Adopters must be at least 21 and apply through the rescue that has the cat; fees run from $100 to $150 depending on the rescue and the cat's age and cover spaying or neutering, vaccines, a microchip and FIV/FeLV testing. The lounge holds monthly events such as painting nights, yoga with cats and sound baths, hosts private parties and is closed on Tuesdays.

Whiskers and Soda Cat Cafe

Whiskers and Soda is a cat cafe on Garland Road near White Rock Lake in East Dallas. Rob and Caroline Stovall opened it in March 2023 to support A Voice For All Paws, the nonprofit rescue whose cats live there, usually about 15 adults plus kittens in a separate Kitten Tree Room, all vetted and available for adoption. Walk-in rates are $16 an hour for adults and $8 for children, with additional hours at half price; walk-ins depend on space, so reservations are recommended, and monthly members can book further ahead at lower rates. The coffee bar serves cat-named drinks such as the Cappurrccino along with pastries and snacks. House rules ask guests to let the cats approach them, keep shoes off or wear covers, keep noise down and avoid camera flash, and children under 6 must be supervised. Adoptions require an indoor-only home with no declawing. Its sister business, Griffin Rock Cat Retreat, offers cat boarding in the same building. It is closed on Mondays.

The Cozy Catfe

The Cozy Catfe is a cat cafe on Southwest Green Oaks Boulevard in Arlington, a few minutes from the city's stadiums. It opened in December 2021 and, at more than 4,500 square feet, bills itself as the largest cat cafe in Texas. It works alongside The Cozy Catfe Rescue, a nonprofit in the same building that takes cats only from shelters in Arlington, Fort Worth, Irving and Grand Prairie, and has rehomed more than 500 cats. Visitors pay an hourly entry fee per person that includes a complimentary drink from a self-serve coffee bar with bottled drinks and packaged snacks, and every dollar of entry fees goes to the rescue. Online booking is recommended, though walk-ins are welcome when space allows. Children 14 and under need an adult, with one adult for every three children. Events include yoga with the cats, painting nights, bingo and murder mysteries, and the space can be booked for parties.

Frisky Kitty Cat Cafe
Fredericksburg, Texas
Frisky Kitty Cat Cafe is a coffee shop and cat lounge on East Main Street in Fredericksburg, in the Texas Hill Country. Owner April Laird opened it on May 23, 2026, and runs it with her daughter as her business partner. The cats come from local Hill Country rescues, which also provide their veterinary care, and they are available for adoption. The cat room is enclosed in glass and kept separate from the coffee bar, so you can order a coffee or tea and watch the cats before heading in to meet them. Nothing is cooked on site; cookies and other baked goods come from local bakeries. There is also a gift shop with cat-themed merchandise. It is open Monday to Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM, and there is free parking in the lot and on the street.

Cat Haven Lounge is a Korean-inspired cat lounge on Colonial Parkway in Katy, west of Houston, which opened on March 8, 2024. It acts as a foster facility for five partner rescues, Cat Haven Rescue, The Sunshine Fund Cat Rescue, Cuddle Buddies Rescue, Mutts & Meows Rescue and Little HeartBeats Kitten Rescue, which own the cats and handle adoptions, and more than 500 cats had been adopted through the lounge by October 2026. Guests swap their shoes for lounge slippers, sign a waiver and pay at the desk; visits can be reserved online or made as walk-ins, with discounted walk-in rates on Tuesday to Thursday afternoons. Korean music plays and staff greet visitors in Korean, and there are board games and Wi-Fi for studying or working. The lounge also hosts workshops such as crochet and painting. It does not take cats from the public and refers owners and people who find stray cats to local rescues or shelters.

9 Whiskers Lounge
Katy, Texas
9 Whiskers Lounge is a cat lounge in a shopping plaza on South Mason Road in Katy, west of Houston, founded by a military veteran. It bills itself as an interactive cat lounge, often called a “cat petting zoo”: resident “mentor” cats live there permanently and help socialize newcomers, while adoptable cats from local shelters stay at the lounge as a foster home. Visits cost $18 per person for an hour, and a private booking for up to 20 people costs $360; reservations are encouraged because walk-ins are not guaranteed. Guests take off their shoes and wear socks, which are sold on site, and free lockers are provided. The Bubble Cat Cafe

The Bubble Cat Cafe is a cat lounge on South Mayhill Road in Denton and the city's first cat cafe. Owned by August Wooten and both women-owned and queer-owned, it opened on June 12, 2026, after several years of setbacks. Its cats, about a dozen at a time, come from Texas Pawprints, a Dallas-based rescue, and all of them can be adopted, with adoption fees going to the rescue. Visits are booked online in advance, and walk-ins are taken only when there is space. Prepackaged snacks and drinks are sold, and boba tea is planned. The lounge is closed on Mondays and takes a one-hour break from 2 to 3 PM.

The Twisted Whisker is a cat lounge and boarding boutique on South Morgan Street in Granbury, Texas. Sydney's Cat Lounge

Sydney's Cat Lounge is a cat lounge on East 7th Street in the Govalle area of East Austin. It opened on November 4, 2025, and is run by Sydney's Sanctuary, a nonprofit cat rescue founded in 2024 by Quin and Alex Whiddon. The decor draws on Alice in Wonderland and Bridgerton, with castle walls, thrones, teacup chairs, mushrooms and a wall of clocks, and the backyard has a catio and a small topiary hedge maze. Its cats come from Lockhart Animal Shelter and Central Texas Feline Rescue and can be adopted by applying in person or online. Visits are 45-minute sessions booked in advance, with one ticket per guest and a signed waiver; guests must be 6 or older, and those 16 and under need an adult. Drinks include coffee, herbal teas, specialty sodas, beer, wine and zero-proof cocktails. Military members and first responders get 25% off weekday visits. It is closed on Mondays.
