Cafelino Café & Adoption Center

Cafelino ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌is a non-profit cat adoption centre funded by a specialty coffee shop in central Montevideo, at the corner of Colonia and Convención, a block from Avenida 18 de Julio and a short walk from Plaza Independencia. It opened in July 2022, founded by Carina Prandini and Alen Machado after years of fostering cats at home. Visitors first order in the cafe, which offers coffee, cakes, savoury dishes and gluten-free, vegan and sugar-free options, and then spend time in the separate Cat Lounge, a room with sofas and toys where rescued cats wait for adoption. Cats come from rescuers, shelters and members of the public and are checked by vets before joining the group. Adoptions follow a strict screening process. Cafelino is registered as an educational centre and runs workshops and courses on cat behaviour and welfare, as well as cat yoga, and sells cat-themed goods.
