House of Black Cat Magic is a metaphysical supply shop and black cat lounge on Haywood Road in West Asheville, opened in May 2023. It works with Binx's Home for Black Cats, a nonprofit, and Miss Dixie's Kitten Rescue to raise awareness of black cats, which are often passed over, and every cat in the lounge is available for adoption. The shop sells candles, incense, herbs, books and ritual tools, many sourced locally, and visitors pay a fee to spend time with the cats in a cage-free lounge. The Chatty Cat Cafe
Zanesville, Ohio
The Chatty Cat Cafe is a coffee shop and foster home for adoptable rescue cats inside the Colony Square Mall in Zanesville, around the corner from the food court and a few minutes off Interstate 70. It opened in 2022 and works with local rescues including Rural Ohio Cats and Kittens and PAWS of Muskingum County. The cafe serves espresso drinks, tea, boba, breakfast sandwiches and snacks, and is open to anyone. The separate cat lounge holds 10 people at a time. Reservations are recommended for everyone and required for groups with anyone under 18, and walk-ins pay the same price when there is space. A window looks into the separate lounge, where up to 12 adoptable cats from For The Love of Cats and the Wood County Humane Society roam free. The cafe sometimes closes during listed hours for holidays, private parties or bad weather and posts those closures on Facebook.

Meow Lounge
Westbrook, Maine
Meow Lounge is a nonprofit cat lounge on Main Street in downtown Westbrook, just outside Portland, and opened in July 2023 as Maine's first cat cafe. Founder Anne Beal partners with local shelters and rescue groups, and every cat in the lounge is adoptable, with adoptions handled by the cat's original rescue; the lounge has passed several hundred adoptions. Visitors book 25- or 50-minute visits or longer work and study sessions, check in at the gift shop to sign a waiver and enter the lounge through a separate door, with shoes off or covered. Booking ahead is advised because space is limited. The lounge is for ages 5 and up, and children 12 and under need an adult. Guests may bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, and board games, cards and books are provided. A gift shop sells Maine-made goods, and weekly events include yoga, crafts, trivia, game and movie nights.

The minimum age is 6, except for a weekly Saturday morning Kids and Kitties session open to all ages, and children under 13 must be with an adult. Opened in 2023 as the city's first cat cafe, it is divided into a self-service area with frozen drinks, coffee, tea, sodas and pre-packaged snacks, and a cat lounge where visitors pay an entry fee to spend time with adoptable cats and a couple of resident cats. The adoptable cats come through the rescue partner Pretty Pittie Committee and are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated; adopters fill in an application. Walk-ins are welcome without an appointment, and visits can also be booked online. Children under 7 are limited to 30-minute visits with one adult for every two children. The front of the cafe stocks books, records, comics, Pokemon cards and other media, and the cafe sells cat merchandise, hosts parties and runs regular events.
