affoGATO ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​​​‌‌‌​‌‌‌​‌​‌‌‌​​​‌‌​​​​​‌‌​‌⁠Cat Cafe on Starkweather Avenue in Tremont opened in January 2019 as the first cat cafe in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. The building has two separate parts. The cafe at the entrance serves coffee made with local ingredients, local vegan pastries and merchandise, has its own air system and needs no booking, so allergic visitors can come in too. Next door, the cat lounge fosters 16 to 20 cats from the Cleveland Animal Protective League, and visitors book a block of time to play, cuddle or work alongside them, drinks in hand. The cafe focuses on cats that are harder to place, such as middle-aged cats, mother cats, bonded pairs and cats with health needs, and all of them can be adopted. Reservations are recommended. Children under 13 may visit the cats only on Sundays. It describes itself as LGBTQ+, Latine, neurodivergent and women-owned.

Dayton, Ohio

Gem ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌‌​‌​‌‌​​‌‌​​‌​​‌‌‌‌​​​‌​​‌​‌​​⁠City Catfé is a coffee house, wine bar and cat lounge in a green historic house on East 5th Street in Dayton's St. Anne's Hill Historic District, just east of the Oregon District. It opened in 2018 and works with its nonprofit partner Gem City Kitties, which also runs a low-cost vet clinic in Trotwood. Up to 18 adoptable cats live in the cat lounge, which is separated from the cafe by two doors and has a large wooden airplane for the cats, a nod to Dayton's aviation history. The cafe serves fair-trade coffee, tea, wine, cocktails and local baked goods, and an upstairs gallery doubles as co-working space. Lounge visits carry a small fee, discounted for members, and reservations are recommended. Twelve guests are allowed in at a time, children must be at least 5, and everyone signs a waiver.

Mason, Ohio

The cafe and the cat lounge are fully separate. The cafe is free to enter and serves coffee, espresso drinks, tea, smoothies, bagels and baked goods, and drinks can be taken into the lounge. The lounge holds adoptable cats from rescues such as His Hands Extended Sanctuary, HART Animal Rescue and Myles Ahead Animal Sanctuary, and visits are booked as 50-minute sessions, with walk-ins when there is room. Alliance, Ohio

Columbus, Ohio

Kitty ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​‌​‌​​‌​‌‌‌‌​​‌‌​​‌​​‌‌​​​​​‌​‌⁠Bubble Cafe & Bar is a cat cafe on North High Street at the northern edge of Clintonville, near Worthington, that opened in August 2022 as Columbus's only cat cafe. The cafe and bar side serves bubble tea, coffee, beer, wine, sake, cocktails, macarons and other snacks, for dine-in or takeaway, with no ticket needed. A separate cat lounge holds free-roaming adoptable cats from the rescue Colony Cats, and visits are booked as 55-minute sessions. Tickets are best bought in advance, since walk-ins are turned away when the lounge is full. Lounge sessions run in two blocks each open day, with a break in between, and the cafe is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Adoptions go through Colony Cats. Medina, Ohio

Entry is free, and donations support the cats.
