Each session starts with a short induction on the house rules, and shoes are changed and hands sanitised on entry. Visitors must be 5 or older, and children 12 and under need a paying adult with them; children pay a lower rate, and weekend and public holiday prices are slightly higher. The business also boards cats and sells cat food, litter and toys, and it sells purebred kittens sourced directly from breeders. Birthday parties can be held in the lounge.

Entry is for a one-hour session with a soft drink included, with lower prices for children aged 6 to 11 and family bundles; walk-in visitors can extend into the next session if there is space. Booking ahead is advised for weekends. Children under 3 are not allowed in the cat room. Visitors can buy freeze-dried treats to feed the cats, and the cafe has board games and Nintendo Switch games. Coffee and tea are served in a separate cafe area, where guests may also bring their own food.

Alongside pet food and accessories and a large reptile room, it has a kitty room where visitors pay a small entry fee to sit with and pat the shop's kittens and cats, and a puppy room that works the same way. The kittens and cats in the room are sold by the shop, so this is a commercial pet shop rather than a rescue. Entry to the kitty room is valid for the whole day instead of a timed session, and no booking is needed. There is no food or drink service. The shop is open every day, with shorter hours on weekends, and it also sells puppies, birds, fish and a wide range of reptiles.

Port Douglas, Queensland

Its cattery has a large air-conditioned indoor room with climbing frames, toys and beds, plus an outdoor area, and the cats living there are rescues from the Douglas Shire waiting for new homes. Besides people looking to adopt, cat lovers are welcome to drop in and spend time with the cats, and the shelter runs the room as a small cat cafe where coffee is offered for a gold coin donation. No booking is needed, and visits take place during the shelter's daytime opening hours. Adoptions are arranged directly with the shelter. Paws and Claws also offers dog boarding and day care, lets visitors take its rescue dogs for walks, and runs a charity shop in Mossman.
