Hananoki Shelter
Hananoki Shelter is the main building of a Nagoya cat rescue group in Hananoki, Nishi Ward, about 7 minutes on foot from Sengencho Station and 8 minutes from Josai Station. Founded in 2014, the group takes in cats from the Nagoya City Animal Welfare Center and from the public, and has rehomed more than 2,000 cats. The shelter is run as an open facility: besides adoption, anyone can pay a flat fee, with no time limit, to spend time with the cats in a shared contact room, which usually has many friendly adults and kittens, including FeLV-positive cats. Adopters are welcome, including older and single people, and the group also runs foster and long-stay programmes. The shelter is closed on Thursdays and has no parking.
