Catnip Cat Cafe
Catnip Cat Cafe is a cat lounge on Colley Avenue in the Ghent Shoppes in Norfolk, and opened in July 2017 as the first cat cafe in Hampton Roads and in Virginia. Around 20 adoptable shelter cats from partner rescues Billy the Kidden Rescue and Feral Affairs Network live cage-free in a 2,000-square-foot space, and the cafe concentrates on finding homes for adult and senior cats. Visits are booked per person by the hour, and a complimentary coffee, tea or other drink from the self-service bar is included; no food is sold. Reservations are recommended because places are limited each hour, and walk-ins are taken only when a slot has not sold out. Every guest signs a waiver and sanitizes their hands, children under 5 are not admitted, and under-18s need a parent's waiver. Free Wi-Fi is available, and the cafe holds occasional Kittenpalooza weekends.
