The Purrfect Bean
The Purrfect Bean is a vegan cafe with an upstairs cat lounge on North Lombardy Street in the Fan District of Richmond, in the former Westray's Finest Ice Cream building. The ground-floor cafe serves coffee, matcha, seasonal lattes, lemonades and plant-based food, and anyone can walk in for a drink without a reservation. The cat lounge upstairs is booked online for 50-minute sessions, charged per person, with higher prices on weekends and a cheaper happy-hour slot. It holds up to 10 people at a time. Children under 4 are not admitted, and visitors under 18 need an adult, with at least one adult for every three children. The cats and kittens come from Purring Hearts VA, a volunteer-run foster rescue that pulls cats from Richmond-area shelters, and they can be adopted through the rescue. The lounge is not wheelchair accessible, although the cafe is.

Schwartzy's Cat Cove
Williamsburg, Virginia44 mi / 70 km
Schwartzy's Cat Cove is a cat lounge inside Nautical Dog, a locally owned pet supply shop on Main Street in New Town, Williamsburg. Opened in July 2022 as Williamsburg's first cat lounge, it occupies the shop's former space next door and is named after Nautical Dog's first shop cat, a black senior with special needs. Visitors sit and spend time with adoptable cats from Heritage Humane Society and other local shelters, with an emphasis on adult and senior cats, FIV-positive cats and others with special needs who tend to wait longer in a shelter; kittens are rare. Guests sign a waiver before entering, and anyone who falls for a cat can apply to adopt. The Cove passed its 600th adoption in April 2026. It closes an hour before the shop, which also has a self-service dog wash.
