This policy explains what information we collect when you use Cat Cafe Map at https://catcafemap.com (the "site"), why we collect it, and who it is shared with. The site is operated by Renna Labs ("we", "us" or "our").
In short:
- You don't need an account to use the site.
- Our analytics don't use cookies or store your IP address, and we don't show ads.
- We only receive personal information, like your name and email address, if you choose to contact us.
- We don't sell your personal information.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, which we host ourselves, to understand how the site is used. Plausible doesn't use cookies, doesn't store your IP address, and doesn't follow you across other websites. It records information such as the pages you visit, the website that referred you, your browser, operating system and device type, and your country.
It also records a few actions on the site: the text you type into our search boxes, links you follow to other websites, and clicks on the Report, Claim and Suggest Edit buttons on cafe pages. Please don't type personal information into the search box.
When you contact us
If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them to reply to you, to act on what you've asked (for example, updating a listing), and to keep a record of our conversation.
- We deliver contact form messages, and an automatic confirmation to you, by email through Resend.
- Messages are also checked by an AI model, accessed through OpenRouter, to help us sort them and filter out spam.
- Your IP address is used briefly to limit how many messages can be sent, and is not stored.
If you email us directly, or use the Report, Claim or Suggest Edit buttons (which open your email app), we receive your email address and whatever you write.
Security and bot protection
The site runs behind Cloudflare, and our contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block spam and automated abuse. Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser details to deliver and protect the site, and may set strictly necessary security cookies. Our server also keeps access logs of the requests that reach it: the page requested, the time, your IP address, your browser's user agent, the referring page, your approximate country, and technical details your browser sends with every request, such as its language settings and the browser version and platform it reports. We use them only to keep the site running and to detect abuse such as automated scraping, and we delete them after 14 days.
Maps and location
Our maps are drawn with map images from CARTO. When a map loads, your browser requests those images directly from CARTO, which receives your IP address and the area of the map you are viewing.
If you use "Near me" on the world map, your browser asks for your permission first. Your location is used in your browser to move the map, and is not sent to us.
When a search doesn't match any cafe, we send the search text, not your IP address, to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find the place you meant.
Reviews and listings
Ratings and reviews on cafe pages come from Google Maps. We fetch them on our servers, so loading a cafe page doesn't share your information with Google. Listings may include the names and contact details businesses publish for their cafes.
Affiliate links and other websites
Some product links go to Amazon through the Amazon Associates program. If you follow one, Amazon may use cookies to record that you came from our site, and Amazon's privacy policy applies. The same goes for any other website we link to, such as cafe websites and social media pages.
Cookies
We don't set cookies ourselves, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies you may receive while using the site are strictly necessary security cookies from Cloudflare, described above.
How long we keep information
Analytics data is kept in aggregate and isn't linked to you. We keep contact messages for as long as we need them to respond and to maintain an accurate directory, and we delete them on request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including in the European Union, the United Kingdom and California, you may have the right to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to how we use it. To make a request, email us. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising.
The service providers named above may process information in the United States and other countries.
Children
The site is a general-audience directory and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page.
