The Cat's Familiar
Gardiner, Maine
The Cat's Familiar is a cat cafe and gift shop on Water Street in downtown Gardiner, along the Kennebec River south of Augusta. Opened in November 2025 by owner Bonnie Caspersen, it serves affordable home-style take-out such as sandwiches, ice cream and smoothies, and sells gifts made by local artisans. The cat lounge is a cozy space with adoptable cats and kittens, and visitors can book a visit of up to one hour online, with walk-ins welcome when there is room. Admission is charged per person, with lower rates for seniors and teenagers, and children 12 and under enter free with a paying adult. The Whisker Room
Muskegon, Michigan
The Whisker Room is a coffee shop and cat room on Second Street in downtown Muskegon, in the former Drip Drop Drink space, and the city's first cat cafe. Opened in summer 2025 as an extension of The Arc of the Lakeshore, a nonprofit supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it provides job training and work experience for staff of all abilities. The cat room has a small rotating group of about five adoptable cats from Big Lake Humane Society, and visitors can apply to adopt them through the shelter. Fancy Cat Cafe
Southaven, Mississippi
Fancy Cat Cafe is a coffee shop and cat lounge on Getwell Road in Southaven, Mississippi, just south of the Memphis city line. Opened in January 2026 by Matt and Crystal Stephens, who have worked with local rescue groups for more than a decade, it is the first cat cafe in the Memphis area. The cafe side serves espresso drinks and cold brew made from small-batch roasted beans, house-made syrups, teas and pastries baked each morning, and is open daily from early morning. A separate, larger cat room holds around 15 adoptable cats and kittens from local shelters and foster groups, and staff help visitors start the adoption process with the cat's rescue. The cat room is open Tuesday to Sunday from late morning, visits are paid, and reservations are recommended. The cafe partners with the Pet Compassion Centers and does not take in cats from the public.

Dakota Cat Cafe
Lincoln, North Dakota
Dakota Cat Cafe is a coffee shop and cat lounge on Santee Road in Lincoln, a small city just southeast of Bismarck, and opened in December 2025 as North Dakota's first cat cafe. The cafe serves handcrafted espresso drinks with cat-themed names, tea and local pastries, and is open from early morning for commuters. A separate cat lounge holds adoptable cats from Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue, and visitors book low-cost 30 minute sessions online for up to eight people, after every guest signs a waiver. Lounge hours are shorter than cafe hours, with a midday break on weekdays and no Thursday morning sessions. One adult is required for every two children under 14. Staff in the lounge introduce the cats and their histories, and adoptions go through the rescue. Outside cats are not allowed. The Alaska Cat Cafe
Wasilla, Alaska
The Alaska Cat Cafe is a coffee shop and cat lounge on North Lucille Street in central Wasilla, about 40 minutes' drive from Anchorage. It was opened in July 2025 by Tahlya Rice, then a teenager, and all of the cafe's profits go to her nonprofit, The Cat Cottage, which rescues and cares for abandoned, stray and surrendered cats in the Mat-Su Valley. The cafe is open to everyone without a reservation and serves coffee, specialty drinks, sandwiches, soups and baked goods. The cat lounge is a separate paid room, booked for 30 or 60 minutes, with up to 12 guests per time slot. Reservations are strongly recommended. Children must stay with an adult. The cats come from The Cat Cottage, Clear Creek Cat Rescue and the Mat-Su Borough shelter and are adoptable. The cafe also hosts paint and sip nights and birthday parties.

Rusty Cat Cafe
Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Rusty Cat Cafe is Johnstown's first cat cafe, on Walnut Street in the downtown area. It grew out of the rescue of 19 feral cats living behind the building by volunteers from the Johnstown Animal Welfare Society, and the cafe now works with local rescues to house adoptable cats in a separate, cage-free cat room. The cafe has a Western theme and serves La Prima coffee from Pittsburgh, specialty lattes, dirty sodas, house-made pastries and breakfast and lunch sandwiches, with plenty of seating for guests who do not visit the cats. Entry to the cat room is a small separate fee, and reservations are recommended. Proceeds from the cafe support local rescue work, and visitors can meet cats there with the aim of adopting or simply spend time with them.

Central Purr Cat Cafe
Panama City Beach, Florida
Central Purr is a nonprofit cat cafe on US 98 (Panama City Beach Parkway) in the middle of Panama City Beach, close to the beach accesses, mini golf and go-kart tracks. It opened in March 2026 and is run by volunteers. The cafe side sells cold lattes, coffee, drinks, chips, cookies and desserts, and a separate lounge holds around ten to fifteen adoptable cats that roam freely. Visits are paid by time: one-hour sessions are booked online and strongly recommended, while shorter 30-minute visits are for walk-ins when there is space. All ages are welcome, and children aged two and under enter free. Every cat in the lounge can be adopted, and the cafe also takes volunteers to help care for the cats. It opens in the afternoons and is closed on Wednesdays.

Meowter Banks Cat Café
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
Meowter Banks Cat Café is the only cat cafe on the Outer Banks, on North Croatan Highway at milepost 4.5 in Kitty Hawk. It opened in 2025 and is veteran-owned and woman-owned. The cafe serves coffee, specialty drinks and pastries from local bakeries with no entry fee, and a large window looks into the cat lounge, where adoptable cats and kittens from local shelters live while they wait for homes. Lounge visits are paid by the half hour or hour, with lower rates for children aged 7 to 10, and socks or shoe covers are required. Walk-ins are taken first come, first served, but booking online or calling ahead is recommended. Guests must be 7 or older during normal hours, and children 6 and under can visit at set Saturday morning times. The female-owned small business works with Harbor Humane Society, which provides the adoptable cats and kittens that live cage-free in a cat room and a separate kitten room. It is not a full cafe, but sells a curated selection of Michigan-made snacks and drinks and retail items from local vendors and artists. Visits are booked online as 50-minute sessions, and walk-ins can have a shorter 30-minute visit when there is capacity. The main entrance is at the back of the building, where there is parking. Guests wear clean shoes or socks and sanitize their hands, the kitten room takes four people at a time, and children 12 and under need one adult for every two children. Boops & Beans Cat Cafe
Kingsport, Tennessee
Boops & Beans Cat Cafe is a cat cafe on Broad Street in downtown Kingsport, near the corner of Market Street, which opened in March 2025 in a former salon next to Cornucopia. It works as a large foster home for shelter and rescue cats from PetWorks Animal Services, The Bridge Home No Kill Animal Rescue and R U Kitten Me, and the cats live cage-free in the lounge so visitors can see their personalities. Visits carry an entrance fee, which is the cafe's main source of income for the cats' care, and the number of guests is limited, so online reservations are strongly encouraged on weekends and holidays.
