Hogoneko Cafe Funyari
Yoshida, Shizuoka
Funyari is an adoption-based rescue cat cafe in Sumiyoshi, in the port town of Yoshida in Haibara District, opened in December 2019 by a local cat rescue volunteer. It works more like a shelter that welcomes visitors than a conventional cafe: around 50 rescued cats live in the upstairs room, and many are very sociable, climbing onto laps and shoulders as soon as visitors sit down. Instead of a fixed time charge, visitors are asked for a donation when they leave, a bottled drink is included, and cat treats can be bought. Children can stay up to 90 minutes. Visitors change into slippers at the ground-floor entrance and register upstairs, and the entrance is not well signposted. The rescue also took in cats from households hit by the 2025 tornado. It closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
