Temple Cat
Temple Cat is an adoption-based rescue cat house in Showacho, Atami, with JR Atami Station as the nearest station, run by NPO Kusunoki, a local group that has rescued and rehomed cats in Atami since 2003. It reopened in April 2023 in a renovated old Japanese house that had served as the group's third shelter. Many rescued cats live in the main room, and most are very friendly, gathering on laps and blankets as soon as visitors sit down. The house is meant both for people considering adoption, who can talk to the volunteer staff about any cat, and for visitors who simply want to spend time with the cats and help them get used to people. Visits are charged by time and support the group's rescue work, and booking ahead is recommended. It closes on Sundays and Mondays.

Ito, Shizuoka6.0 mi / 9.6 km
Kaifuso is a small family-run hot spring guesthouse in Usami, in the north of Ito, about three minutes on foot from Usami Station on the JR Ito Line and from Usami beach, that bills itself as an inn with cats. Five resident cats, former rescues, wander freely through the lobby, corridors and garden, and guests who leave their door slightly open may get a visit in their room; the cats go back to their own quarters at 10 PM. Guests are asked not to keep a cat in their room for long so that everyone gets a chance to see them. The inn serves home-cooked meals built around local seafood and has a natural hot spring bath that can be booked for private use at check-in. Several of the cats have appeared in rankings of Japan's best-loved inn cats. This is an overnight stay, not a drop-in cafe.
