Mauhaus ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​​‌​​‌‌​‌‌‌​​‌​​​‌​​‌‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌⁠Cat Cafe & Lounge is a cat cafe on Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood, just west of St. Louis. Opened in November 2016 by Dana Huth and Ben Triola, it was the first permanent cat cafe in the St. Louis area. The bright lounge holds around a dozen adoptable cats from Stray Haven Rescue, all vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped, and several usually go home each week. Visits are booked by the hour per person and include a house drink, with lower prices for seniors and children; reservations are strongly recommended and must be made at least two hours ahead, though walk-ins are taken when space allows. Children of any age are welcome with one adult for every two children. The cafe serves coffee and baked goods that change daily, and a monthly low-sensory evening is held for adults.

Branson, Missouri

Mochas ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌‌‌‌​​​​‌‌​​‌​‌‌‌‌​​​​‌​​‌‌‌‌‌​⁠and Meows is a cat cafe on Falls Parkway in Branson, a short drive from the Highway 76 entertainment strip, and was Southwest Missouri's first permanent cat cafe. The cafe serves espresso drinks, teas, real fruit smoothies and light food such as paninis, and visitors can watch the cats through a 12-foot viewing window for free. For hands-on time, guests book a timed session of 30 minutes or an hour in a cat lounge of more than 2,200 square feet, where the cats live cage-free with climbing walls and plenty of toys. All the lounge cats are adoptable through the Branson Humane Society, and staff guide visitors through the adoption process. The cafe also runs cat yoga classes and a feeding experience in which guests help serve the rescue cats their dinner. It is popular with families visiting Branson.

Columbia, Missouri

Bertha's ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌‌​‌​‌​​​‌‌‌‌​‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌​‌‌​​‌⁠Beans Cat Café is a coffee shop and cat lounge at the western edge of downtown Columbia, near Providence Road and Broadway and a short walk from the University of Missouri. It is run by the owners of the local Lizzi & Rocco's Natural Pet Market and works as a large foster home for Columbia Second Chance, so apart from two resident cats every cat in the lounge is available for adoption through the rescue. The cats live in their own room, separated from the cafe and kitchen by an airlock, and visitors pay an entry fee for time with them; no reservation is needed. Guests of all ages are welcome, but under-16s must stay with a paying adult, and everyone signs a waiver. The cafe serves espresso, tea, house-made pastries, wraps and sandwiches, sells cat-themed goods and offers monthly and annual memberships.

Kansas City, Missouri

Whiskers ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​‌‌​‌‌‌‌​​‌​‌‌​​​‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌​⁠Cat Cafe & Coffeehouse is a cat cafe on Southwest Trafficway near 37th Street in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri, with its entrance and parking at the back of the building. Opened in November 2018, it was the first cat cafe in the Kansas City area. It has two sides: a full-service coffeehouse serving Messenger Coffee, open to anyone without a booking, and a separate cat lounge next door. The lounge has a few resident cats along with adoptable cats from KC Pet Project and other local rescues, and staff guide adopters through a matching process; more than 1,500 cats have been adopted. Lounge visits are booked online for a fee that includes a cup of drip coffee, every guest signs a waiver, and regular sessions are for ages 10 and up, with short family sessions for younger children. Yoga With Cats, paint nights and memberships are also offered.

St Louis, Missouri

The ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌​‌‌‌‌‌​‌​​​‌​​​​​​​​‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌​⁠Cheshire Grin Cat Cafe is a nonprofit cat cafe on Cherokee Street's Antique Row in south St. Louis, open on weekends since August 2019. It is run by its own rescue, The Green Paw Rescue, founded by Kateri and Paul, who pull many cats from the city's animal control euthanasia list and take in strays and cats from feral colonies. Around 15 or more adoptable cats roam freely through a historic two-story brick building fitted with climbing routes, hideouts and a clear cat walkway overhead. Visitors book an hour for a small fee per person or walk in when there is space, and can buy coffee, drinks and cake. Children under 7 are not allowed, one adult is needed for every two children, and groups of more than eight need a private booking. Adopters apply to the rescue and talk with staff first, and young kittens go home in pairs.

Kirkwood, Missouri

Whisker ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌​​‌​‌​​​​‌​​‌‌‌‌​‌‌​​​‌‌‌‌​‌​⁠Station Cat Cafe and Lounge is a cat lounge on North Kirkwood Road in downtown Kirkwood, a St. Louis suburb, a short walk from the Kirkwood Amtrak station. It was started by Sara, a longtime cat fosterer whose daughter works there with her. All the cats come from Heartland Humane Society of Missouri, a foster-based rescue serving the St. Louis area, and more than a dozen are often in the lounge at once. Visitors pay by the hour to relax and play with the cats and can buy light snacks and drinks. Reservations are strongly encouraged, walk-ins are taken when there is room, and every guest signs a waiver. Children 6 and under can visit during a Guardian & Me hour at the start of each day. Visitors who bond with a cat can apply to adopt. Weekly cat yoga and private parties are also offered.

Liberty, Missouri

Sugar ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌‌‌​​‌‌‌‌‌​‌‌​‌‌‌​​‌​​​‌​​​​​‌⁠Kittens Cat Cafe & Cattery is a kitten cafe on Route 291 in Liberty, Missouri, in the Northland of the Kansas City area. Founded by Jeff and Lacey Nielson, it opened in November 2020 and has rehomed more than a thousand cats and kittens across its two locations. The lounge usually holds dozens of kittens along with some adult cats, a few of them permanent residents, and new kittens arrive every week. Visitors book a 50-minute session online, and anyone under 16 must come with an adult. Many guests come just to play; others use the visit to meet a kitten to adopt; applications are filled out on site and usually finalized within two days, and adoptions are limited to residents of the Kansas City metro. Saint Charles, Missouri

Cat ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​​‌​​​‌​​‌​‌​​‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌​⁠Zen Cafe and Lounge is a cat cafe on North Main Street in the historic downtown of St. Charles, Missouri, the brick-paved shopping district along the Missouri River, and was the town's first cat lounge. Its free-roaming lounge, with plenty of perches, hideouts and toys, acts as a temporary foster home for adoptable cats from Smelly Cat Rescue, a nonprofit that helps stray and barn cats and their kittens. All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia and personality tested before they arrive. Visitors book 30 or 60 minutes in the lounge, and an hour includes a free drink; walk-ins are welcome when space allows, and every guest signs a waiver. Coffee, tea, snacks and cat-themed gifts are sold. The lounge occasionally closes for paint classes, yoga and private events, and more than 400 cats have been adopted through it.

Jefferson City, Missouri

Baristocats ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​​‌​‌​​​‌‌‌‌‌‌​​‌‌​​​​‌​‌‌‌​​‌⁠Cat Cafe is the adoption lounge of People Helping Paws Cat Rescue, a foster-based nonprofit in Jefferson City, on East McCarty Street southeast of the Missouri State Capitol and downtown. Opened in December 2022 and run by volunteers, it has a small coffee counter with drip coffee, tea and snacks, and a large separate cat room with plenty of seating and toys, where around 10 to 15 adoptable cats and kittens live while they wait for homes. Entry to the cat lounge is a small donation per 30 minutes, and visitors can reserve a spot online or walk in; everyone signs a waiver on arrival. Guests under 18 need a parent or a signed waiver, and children under 12 must be supervised by one adult for every two children. The Thursday evening session is for adults only. Adoptions go through the rescue's application process.

Joplin, Missouri

Nine ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌‌​​‌​‌‌​​‌‌​​​​‌​‌​‌‌‌​‌​‌​‌​​⁠Lives Cat Lounge & Adoption Center is a cat lounge and cafe at 2201 East 7th Street in Joplin, Missouri, and the city's first cat lounge. Owner Tiffany Buck opened it on March 1, 2021. Its adoptable cats come from the Joplin Humane Society after being vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped and tested. The cafe is separate from the lounge and serves coffee, tea, smoothies, slushes, soups and sandwiches, and drinks can be taken into the lounge, but food other than cat treats cannot. At opening, a 30-minute lounge visit cost $5, and monthly cat passes were also sold. It is temporarily closed.

Like the original in Liberty, it fills a lounge with dozens of kittens and some adult cats, with new arrivals each week. Visitors book a 50-minute session online, and anyone under 16 must come with an adult. Most of the cats are available for adoption: applications are filled out during a visit and usually finalized within two days, adoptions are limited to residents of the Kansas City metro, and all cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, tested and vaccinated before going home. Hermann, Missouri

Hermann ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌​‌​‌​‌‌​‌​‌​‌​​‌​​​‌‌‌‌​‌‌​​‌⁠Crowned Cat Cafe is a cat lounge on East 4th Street in the historic downtown of Hermann, the Missouri River wine town, run by the Hermann Crown Suites boutique hotel. It works with Ferals in Peril, a nonprofit that fosters and rehomes cats, and around a dozen vaccinated, adoptable cats, many of them young, share a comfortable room with seating, climbing furniture and toys. Visitors choose a short sneak peek, a 40-minute session or a full hour, and an annual pass is sold at one price for locals and visitors alike. Entry fees help cover the cost of caring for the cats and finding them homes. The cafe is open Thursday to Sunday, and earlier in the week visits can be arranged by calling ahead. It makes an easy stop between winery visits, and adoptions are handled through Ferals in Peril.
