Kakamigahara, Gifu

Cafe ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​​‌​‌‌​​‌​​‌‌‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‌​​‌‌‌‌‌​⁠Nekochigura is a cat cafe in Unuma Minamimachi, Kakamigahara, set up like a home, with a fireplace and manga to read. Its name means a cat's cradle, after the woven straw beds made for cats. It has been licensed to exhibit animals since 2010 and keeps around 15 resident cats, from calm adults to kittens; it is not a rescue cafe and does not rehome or sell its cats. Visitors choose a time package and pay in advance: drink packs of one, one and a half or two hours come with a cat-shaped cookie, and meal sets of 90 or 120 minutes include a drink and a dish such as a gratin or burger set, served at any time of day. Shoes come off at the entrance, hands are washed and disinfected before touching the cats, and outside treats and toys are not allowed. There is no age limit, but children of junior high school age and younger need a guardian, and children pay adult rates. Parking is available. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Kyoto

Fluffy's ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌​​‌‌‌‌‌‌​‌‌‌​​​‌‌​‌​​​​‌​‌‌‌​​⁠cafe is a cat cafe on Ura-Teramachi, just east of Shinkyogoku off Takoyakushi-dori in central Kyoto, about five minutes on foot from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station. It is the renamed and renewed form of the long-running cat cafe Wan Nyan Chu. The cafe spreads over two floors: the ground floor, formerly a cafe space, has been converted into a cat room, and the upper floor is home to the longer-serving cats. Around 17 cats are in residence, mostly Munchkins and other pedigree breeds such as Scottish Folds, Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, Exotics, Russian Blues and British Shorthairs. Entry is charged in plans from 30 to 120 minutes, with a higher weekend rate, plus a required one-drink order. Children of all ages are welcome, and infants who cannot yet crawl enter free. Kittens are also sold. Closures are irregular, roughly once every three months.
