Cat ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​​‌​‌‌​​‌‌‌‌‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌‌​​‌‌​‌​⁠Cafe Mocha Kyoto Kawaramachi is a branch of the MOCHA cat cafe chain on the fourth floor of the mina Kyoto building on Kawaramachi-dori, Nakagyo Ward, where it has been since April 2018. It is about 5 minutes on foot from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae and Sanjo stations and 6 minutes from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station. Around 22 cats live here. Visits are charged for a first 30 minutes and then in 10-minute extensions, up to a daily maximum, and drinks are included in the price; weekend and holiday rates are higher. No reservations are taken. Guests must be at least 6 years old, and children under 12 need a guardian. Cat snacks can be bought to feed the cats, and chasing the cats and flash photography are not allowed. The cafe is open every day except New Year's Day, and cash, cards, e-money and QR payments are accepted.

Fluffy's ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌​​‌‌‌‌‌‌​‌‌‌​​​‌‌​‌​​​​‌​‌‌‌​​⁠cafe is a cat cafe on Ura-Teramachi, just east of Shinkyogoku off Takoyakushi-dori in central Kyoto, about five minutes on foot from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station. It is the renamed and renewed form of the long-running cat cafe Wan Nyan Chu. The cafe spreads over two floors: the ground floor, formerly a cafe space, has been converted into a cat room, and the upper floor is home to the longer-serving cats. Around 17 cats are in residence, mostly pedigree breeds such as Russian Blues, Maine Coons, British Shorthairs, Exotics, Munchkins, Norwegian Forest Cats and Scottish Folds. Entry is charged in plans from 30 to 120 minutes, with a higher weekend rate, plus a required one-drink order. Children of all ages are welcome, and infants who cannot yet crawl enter free. Kittens are also sold. Closures are irregular, roughly once every three months.

Cat's ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌‌‌‌‌‌​​‌​‌‌‌​​‌‌​‌‌​​​​​​‌‌‌​​⁠Eye is a cat cafe and art gallery on the third floor of a small triangular building in Shintomicho, Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, about 5 minutes on foot from Jingu-Marutamachi Station. Since it opened in August 2016, six rescue cats have wandered among the paintings on show, and a large south-facing window lets them bask in the sun. Visits are charged by the hour with one drink, with extensions per 30 minutes. With only about ten seats, it can fill up. The owner greets visitors in English, and about half of them come from abroad. It opens in the afternoons and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; when one of those days is a public holiday, it opens that day and closes on the Thursday instead.

Cat&Animal ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​‌​​‌‌‌‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌​​‌‌​‌​​‌‌‌⁠Cafe Noah's Ark Kyoto Aquarium Store is on the ground floor of Hotel Sun Chlorella in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, about two minutes on foot from the Kyoto Aquarium and Umekoji Park. The Shichijo-Omiya/Kyoto Aquarium-mae bus stop is just outside, and Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station is about 8 minutes away on foot and Kyoto Station about 20. One of the Noah's Ark cafes in Kyoto and Osaka, it has about 20 cats along with ferrets; the animals come from breeders and can be bought and taken home. Entry is charged for the first 30 minutes and then per 10 minutes up to a maximum, with higher rates at weekends and on holidays, plus one drink order, and visitors may leave and come back. Socks are required. Walk-ins are welcome, and bookings can be made online. Food service has been paused since January 2026 ahead of a renewal.

Maneki ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​‌​​​​‌‌‌​​‌​​​‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​‌​‌‌​⁠Machiya Cat Cafe is a rescue cat cafe in a traditional machiya townhouse in Uzumasa, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, run by Japan Cat Network, a nonprofit dedicated to cat rescue and animal welfare. Guests spend relaxed time with friendly, adoptable rescue cats and kittens, playing with them using the toys and treats provided, and staff answer questions about cat rescue and care in Japan. Visits are hosted sessions of about two hours in English, for up to seven guests aged 5 and over, booked through Airbnb Experiences or by email; the fee includes soft drinks. Sessions run on weekend afternoons and on Tuesday to Thursday afternoons or evenings, and there are none on Mondays and Fridays. Proceeds support Japan Cat Network's rescue work.

The ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌​‌‌​​‌‌​​‌‌‌‌​​‌‌‌​‌​​‌​​‌​‌​​⁠Cat Retreat at Utanekodo is a reservation-only cat sanctuary in a townhouse about a hundred years old in Tachibanayanagicho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, about 5 minutes on foot from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station. Set across quiet, tatami-style rooms, it pairs a small cafe area with a lounge where eight rescued cats roam freely at their own pace. The cats each have their own rescue story, from former stray kittens to cats saved from pet-industry conditions and animal welfare centers, and they are cared for with a focus on their comfort rather than adoption. Visits are booked online or by email, either as shared sessions of about 70 minutes for at least two guests or as more expensive private sessions for small groups, and prices are well above those of an ordinary cat cafe. Each visit centers on a matcha tea ceremony with a seasonal Japanese sweet, with soft drinks for those who prefer them. Guests are asked not to wear perfume and not to visit another animal cafe on the same day.

Its cats include resident staff cats such as a Maine Coon and a Himalayan, along with rescued mixed-breed cats that are looking for adoptive homes. Entry is charged per 10 minutes, with a cap once a visit passes two hours and a cheaper rate for high school students and younger; no drink order is required, and drinks, food and cat treats are sold separately. Children of elementary and junior high school age must come with an adult, younger children may be turned away, and socks are required. It is open every day from noon to 10 PM, a darts cafe corner opens in the evenings, and walk-ins are welcome except at busy times. Payment is by cash, card or electronic money.

Kyoto ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌​‌​‌‌​​​‌‌​‌‌​​‌‌‌​​​⁠Hyo-neko no Mori is a Bengal cat cafe in the Shinkyogoku and Teramachi shopping area of central Kyoto, a short walk from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station. Its leopard-patterned Bengals live in a jungle-themed room, and the cafe lists around a dozen resident cats by name. In July 2026 it moved about a minute's walk from its former Shinkyogoku site and now shares a floor with the same company's Kyoto Mameshiba Cafe; the company's owl cafe is also close by, and a receipt from either gives a small discount. Tickets are sold at the counter on the day only, with no phone or online reservations, and cover 30 minutes and one drink, with extensions in 10-minute steps. Children aged 4 to 12 pay a reduced rate and must come with a guardian, and children under 4 are not admitted. There is no regular closing day, and socks are required.

Busakawa ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​​​​‌‌‌‌​​​‌​​​‌​‌‌​​‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌​‌⁠Cafe Kyoto Kawaramachi is a dog and cat cafe on the fourth floor of the Regione Building on Kawaramachi-dori opposite Kyoto BAL, about 5 minutes on foot from Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station. Opened in July 2024 as a sister shop of Inu Cafe Rio Kyoto, it is built around "busakawa" (ugly-cute) animals with flat or comical faces. Small dogs such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas and Dachshunds share the room with cats including two Ragdolls, a Munchkin, a Russian Blue, a British Shorthair and an American Shorthair, and each animal has scheduled rest breaks during the day. Visits are charged per 30 minutes with a drink, then in 10-minute extensions, and treats can be bought to feed the animals. Holding the animals is not allowed. Children are welcome, and those of junior high school age or younger must come with a guardian. The cafe is open every day.

Neko ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​​​‌‌‌‌‌​​​​‌​​‌​​‌​​‌‌​​‌​‌‌​‌⁠Cafe Nekogura is a small private-hire cat cafe in Mibu, Nakagyo Ward, in a quiet residential area about 5 to 7 minutes on foot from Hankyu Saiin Station. Set in a house with a Kyoto machiya-style interior, it takes one group at a time, so visitors have the room and the cats to themselves. The resident cats are mainly Exotic Shorthairs, known for their flat faces, along with a few other cats. Visits are charged per hour, with a higher rate on weekends and holidays, and include unlimited soft drinks made to order; cat treats can be bought. All visits are by reservation, taken by phone only, and same-day bookings are possible when slots are free. The cafe closes on Mondays and on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, and a closing day that falls on a public holiday is moved to a later day.

Around 40 cats share the space with ferrets and other animals such as meerkats and, at times, a raccoon dog. The cats come from partner breeders, and many are retired breeding cats. Visits are charged for the first 30 minutes and then in 10-minute extensions up to a cap, with a free-time option, higher weekend rates and one drink per person. Walk-ins are welcome, reservations can be made, and there is no age limit. The cafe opens every day. Cats and other animals can be taken home for a fee, as the cafe sells rather than adopts out its animals. Visitors may also bring vaccinated pet ferrets.

Nyan ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‌​​‌​‌‌‌​​​​‌​‌​​​​​‌‌‌‌⁠Nyan Karaoke Cafe is a small karaoke coffee shop combined with a cat cafe in the Yodo area of Fushimi Ward, in southern Kyoto, close to Keihan Yodo Station. It is run by a breeder who specialises in Maine Coons, so the cats are mostly large, long-haired Maine Coons, and the breeder's kittens are sold here. The owner says the parent cats have been tested for HCM, PK deficiency and PKD. Visitors can come just to spend time with the cats. There is an entry fee plus a charge for every 10 minutes, or a free-time plan with unlimited soft drinks, coffee and tea. Visitors can also sing karaoke and buy treats to feed the cats, and there are set feeding times in the morning and late afternoon. The shop is non-smoking and has free Wi-Fi and power outlets.
