Neko
Orleans, Centre Val De Loire
Neko is a bar à chats and tea room on Rue Royale in central Orléans, the arcaded street that runs from Place du Martroi down towards the Loire. It opened in May 2024 as the city's first cat cafe, run by two young Orléanaises, and spreads over three levels fitted with cat trees, wall shelves and scratching furniture. Up to eight cats live in the cafe at a time, all from a local cat welfare association and all up for adoption, with the adoption fee going to the association. Visitors wash their hands and wait in an entry airlock before being let in, and may stroke the cats but not pick them up or wake them. Each visitor orders at least one item. The menu covers homemade cakes such as carrot cake and chocolate lava cake, savoury snacks and local drinks, with brunch on Sundays by reservation.

La Roche Sur Yon, Pays De La Loire
Le Chalet is a bar à chats on Place du Théâtre in the centre of La Roche-sur-Yon, next to the municipal theatre. Styled as a modern mountain chalet, it has two rooms: a lounge where visitors spend time with the cats, and a cafe room for drinks and food. All the cats come from the Vendée association Le Cœur sur la Patte 85 and are available for adoption after a settling-in period and a compatibility assessment; adoptions are handled by the association on application. The cats are a mix of adults and young cats, and the website lists the current residents. Visitors order from a menu that runs from homemade pastries, hot chocolates and teas to cocktails, local beers, wine and charcuterie and cheese boards, so it also works as an afterwork bar.
