Tom's Bar Asagaya
Tom's Bar is a late-night basement bar on the Star Road drinking street in Asagaya-kita, about a minute on foot from the north side of Asagaya Station on the JR Chuo Line. It doubles as the home of a rescue group run by its owner, a registered NPO called Nyandaful World, and between 35 and 40 rescued cats live in the bar and wander freely among the counter and tables while customers drink. The owner takes in strays and lost cats and will tell visitors the story behind each named cat. It works as an ordinary bar, with drinks ordered at the counter and no separate cat session, and it opens from 7 PM until early morning, with irregular days off. Smoking is allowed inside, so it is not suited to visitors sensitive to smoke or with cat allergies.
