Shi-no-Cafe
Shi-no-Cafe is a small home-style cafe in a converted family house in the residential streets of Nogata, Nakano, about 15 minutes on foot north of Nakano Station. Opened in 2016 in the owner's grandmother's former home, it has tatami-style low tables, a garden view and an engawa veranda with kotatsu seating in the colder months. Three house cats live there and wander through the rooms, usually appearing once the lunch rush is over; they also go out to the garden, so they are not always present. There is no cat charge: visitors order from the menu of set lunches with home-grown vegetables, homemade cakes and drinks, with lunch until mid-afternoon and cafe time after. The cafe is small and booking ahead is recommended, especially for the kotatsu seats. It takes a summer break of about two months.
