Cafe calico
Cafe calico is a cafe with an attached rescue cat shelter in Uozumi-cho, Akashi, about four minutes on foot from Sanyo Nishi-Eigashima Station, with parking for six cars. It opened in October 2023, founded by the owner of a long-running pet salon. The cats live in a room fully separated from the cafe by glass, and a clear tunnel runs across the ceiling so diners can watch them pass overhead, which lets people with allergies visit too. Entry to the cat room is charged per 30 minutes, up to one hour, with one cafe order required, and booking ahead by phone is recommended. Children below elementary school age cannot enter the cat room. Takings fund the shelter, and the cafe arranges adoptions. The menu includes croffles, gelato and a weekday soup lunch. It is closed on Tuesdays.
