Cat Cafes in Netherlands

Arnhem, Gelderland

Kattencafé ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌de Muis is a cat cafe on Weverstraat in the centre of Arnhem, open every day of the week. Its resident cats are former shelter cats who have found a permanent home in the cafe, among them Vlokie, Mikkie and Frenkie. They move freely among the guests and have spots where they can withdraw when they want quiet. The menu offers drinks, cakes, soup and lunch dishes in generous portions, with vegetarian and vegan options, and in good weather guests can sit in an enclosed courtyard garden. Reservations are not possible; visitors simply walk in, and there is usually a free table. Staff hand out cat treats that guests may give, and visitors are expected to follow the house rules and leave sleeping cats alone. Wi-Fi is available.

It opened in April 2017 and is run by the care provider Rondomzorg as a day programme for people with disabilities, who look after the cats and work in the kitchen, behind the counter and in service. Five resident cats live there: Boefje, the eldest and first resident, Lily, Saartje, Yara and the young part-Siamese Boris. The room has a climbing wall, window ledges and resting spots, and the cats have a private back room to retreat to. Zutphen, Gelderland

Kattencafé ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌'t Visje is a cat cafe in a listed building on Turfstraat in central Zutphen, near the railway station. Founded by Chaira and opened in October 2024 with help from crowdfunding, it is staffed entirely by volunteers. Seven resident cats live there, most of them from shelters: Norah and her daughters Eli and Ariel, Lotje, found on a farm as a kitten, Benji, Bo and the black cat Levi. They live permanently in the cafe and are not available for adoption. An entry airlock keeps them indoors. There is no entry fee, though donations and tips are welcome. The menu has organic coffee, tea, cakes and sandwiches with vegan and gluten-free options. Booking is recommended, visits run in time slots, and at most three children per slot are admitted, all under 12 accompanied by an adult. Evening events such as bingo are held.

Amsterdam, Noord Holland

De ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Poezenboot is a cat shelter on a houseboat on the Singel canal in central Amsterdam, a few minutes on foot from Centraal Station. Run by volunteers since 1966, it takes in stray and surrendered cats and rehomes them, and has become one of the city's best-known sights for cat lovers. The boat opens to visitors for two hours on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Entry is free and there is no booking: only about six people are allowed inside at a time, so a queue often forms before opening, visits are short, and latecomers may be turned away on busy days. Visitors meet free-roaming cats in a home-like room; picking them up is not allowed, and children must be accompanied by an adult. The boat is not wheelchair accessible. Adoptions are arranged by phone appointment, not during visiting hours, and donations and a small gift shop support the shelter.

Tiel, Gelderland

Cattitude ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Cat Café is a cat cafe on Waterstraat in the centre of Tiel, the first in the Betuwe region. Jessica van der Horst opened it on 4 July 2026 after visiting cat cafes in South Korea. Seven resident cats live in the cafe, including Roxy, Bandit, Junior, Prince, Skye and the sisters Lucy and Lily; some came from Dierenasiel Tiel and the Superkatten rescue, others from local litters, and all were chosen for being sociable and calm around children. There is no entry fee: guests order coffee, tea, cake, sandwiches, wraps, soup or toasties, and a high tea or high wine is served on reservation. A double entrance keeps the cats inside. Cats may not be picked up or given human food, and sleeping cats are left alone. The cafe has a children's corner and books, and may close early on quiet days.

Oudega, Friesland

All ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌Joor's raskattencafé is a cat cafe and lunchroom on Breksdyk in the village of Oudega, in the Frisian lakes area of Súdwest-Fryslân. Owner Jorinde Verstoep opened it at the age of 21 and runs it largely herself. Unlike most Dutch cat cafes it keeps only pedigree cats, about ten to eleven of them, among them Ragamuffins, Sphynxes, Maine Coons and a Sacred Birman, chosen for coping well with busy rooms and children. The cats live with the owner and roam the restaurant freely; the menu lists their names and breeds. Entry is free with an order. The kitchen serves breakfast, organic lunch, cakes, drinks and snacks, high tea, high coffee and high beer, and dinner in the evenings. A private room for six or seven people and a holiday apartment for up to five guests above the cafe can be booked.

Balkbrug, Overijssel

Kattencafé ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌De Kattenbak is a small cat cafe at Teun's Hoeve, a care farm and children's farm on Maatschappijwijk in Balkbrug, in the municipality of Hardenberg. Opened in 2021, it is run as part of the farm's day programme by participants who love cats, with volunteers. Ten resident cats live in its indoor and outdoor rooms, from the elderly Simba and Kofu to the young brothers Gijs and Gert. Guests drink coffee they grind themselves or tea picked in the farm's tea garden, and can book a two-hour cat-themed high tea called the kittentafel. Hands are disinfected on entry and exit, cats are not picked up, woken or fed, and photos are taken without flash. Children are admitted from age six, accompanied by a parent, with at most two children inside at a time. Visitors can also walk around the farm and its animals.
