Haretoke Coffee
Miyoshi, Tokushima
Haretoke Coffee is a cafe in the wooden building of the former Deai Elementary School in the mountains of Ikeda, Miyoshi, at the gateway to the Iya Valley and best reached by car from Iyaguchi Station. The school closed in 2005 and reopened in 2014 as a cafe and guesthouse, and since August 2024 a former library room has been home to rescued cats cared for with the cat welfare group Machineko Fulness. Cafe guests can visit the cat room to play with and stroke the cats, which are mostly young, and the cats are available for adoption under the group's conditions. The cafe serves coffee roasted on site and brewed with mountain spring water, hand-kneaded pizza, canelés and cakes, with vegan options. The same building has the Yamaneko Hotel and a Finnish-style sauna, both booked through the official LINE account. The cafe is open from Saturday to Monday.
