The shelter is open every afternoon, and anyone is welcome to drop in to see and play with the cats in their rooms; a note by each room says who lives there and whether the cat enjoys being petted. Donations of cat supplies can be brought during opening hours. Adoption meetings are arranged separately by email. The shelter holds sales and events during the year, such as an open evening on the Night of the Arts. This is a rescue shelter rather than a café.

Vaasan Kissatalo
Vaasa, Ostrobothnia
Vaasan Kissatalo, or Katthuset i Vasa, is a cat shelter in an old wooden house on Isolahdentie in Palosaari, Vaasa, about two kilometres from the city centre and close to the University of Vaasa and VAMK campuses. Run by volunteers of the Vaasan kodittomien kissojen ystävät association in this house since 1996, it shelters around 80 cats at a time and finds new homes for 250 to 300 cats a year. Twice a week the shelter holds open doors, when visitors can drop in without booking to see and play with the cats or bring donations. Visitors coming to sign adoption papers or for an adoption interview should book a time within those hours. In summer the association holds yard flea markets at the house. This is a rescue shelter rather than a café, and the cats are waiting for new homes.
