Tsukineko Cafe

Tsukineko Cafe is a rescue cat shelter and adoption cafe in Kita 6 Jo Nishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, within walking distance of Nishi-28-chome Station on the Tozai Line. Opened in September 2010 as Sapporo's first rescue cat cafe, it is run by the NPO Tsukineko Hokkaido, which cares for several hundred cats waiting for new homes and also operates a lifelong-care home for cats in Teine Ward. Today the cafe works mainly as a shelter, and visits to the cat room are by phone reservation only, in one-hour slots with no extensions and a limit of a few groups per hour. Admission is by suggested donation, which goes toward facility and veterinary costs. Children of any age may visit with a guardian, and socks are required. Adoption is the main purpose of the cafe. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and over New Year.
