The Catvalier Lounge
The Catvalier Lounge is Shiawassee County's first cat lounge, in its own building next to Defying Gravity Bakery Café on North State Road, across from Meijer between Owosso and Corunna. Opened in August 2025 by bakery owner Michelle Holmes, it hosts a rotating group of five to seven adoptable cats chosen by the Shiawassee Humane Society, which handles all adoptions; visitors can scan a QR code for each cat to start an application. Visits are one-hour sessions at a flat per-person fee, with up to 12 guests at a time, and the whole room can be booked privately. Sessions are reserved online or by phone, and walk-ins are welcome when space allows. Guests check in at the bakery, where they can buy coffee, breakfast, lunch or pastries to take into the lounge. Events have included cat yoga and paint-your-pet nights.

Karma Kat Cafe
Mount Pleasant, Michigan53 mi / 85 km
Karma Kat Cafe is a cat lounge on East Broadway Street in Mount Pleasant near Central Michigan University. Founded in 2018, it is a state-licensed animal shelter run by the nonprofit Karma Kat Rescue, and its cats live together cage-free in a communal lounge while they wait for homes; more than 1,000 have been adopted. Visitors pay a small admission and can stay as long as they like. Reservations are strongly recommended because the cafe limits the number of people per cat, and walk-ins are not always possible. All adoptable cats are fixed, microchipped and vaccinated. The cafe holds low-cost spay and neuter clinics twice a month and hosts painting, yoga and bingo with the cats.
