Rescue Cat Room Milk
Rescue Cat Room Milk is an adoption-focused cat room on Hondori in central Kure, opened in June 2023 by volunteers who rescue kittens and want to rehome as many as possible. Most of its residents are kittens and young cats, and visitors have counted more than 18 at a time, so laps fill up quickly. Visitors can come simply to play or to meet a cat with a view to adoption. Entry is charged by time, from 30 minutes up to three hours, with lower rates for children up to elementary school age. Visitors may bring their own drinks but not food, and canned drinks and snacks are sold, along with treats for the cats. There is no parking. The room opens from noon to 6 PM and is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Dog Run & Cafe Ann no Jikan
Higashihiroshima12 mi / 19 km
Ann no Jikan is a dog run and cafe in Goso, on the edge of Saijo in Higashihiroshima, run by Ann no Ie, a private shelter that has rescued dogs and cats for around a decade and houses dozens of animals waiting for adoption. The cafe opens on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from around midday into the afternoon. On those days visitors can have lunch, which must be reserved in advance, or cake and drinks, and spend time with the rescued cats in the cat room upstairs, while rescued dogs are outside. Many of the cats are up for adoption, so the line-up changes as they find homes, and the cafe doubles as a place to meet animals before adopting. Dog owners can use the dog run at weekends and on holidays, and members can use it at any time.
