Necoutatane
Neko Cafe Utatane (Necoutatane) is a rescue cat cafe in Kitakawauchi, Miyazaki, that opened in October 2008. Its cats were abandoned or handed in to public animal shelters, and more than 500 have been adopted since it opened; adoption involves a screening, discussed with staff in person. About a dozen cats, from kittens to adults, live there, two of them as permanent staff cats. Visits are by reservation only, by phone or Instagram, with a limit on numbers. Every course includes a drink: on weekdays courses run from 30 minutes up to two hours, while weekend and holiday visits are limited to an hour, and 15-minute extensions can be added when it is not busy. The cat room can be booked privately by two or more people outside regular hours. Preschool children may visit only from 11 AM to 12 PM on a 30-minute course with an adult. It opens every day except New Year's Day from 11 AM to 6 PM, or until 7 PM from July to September.

Utataneko is a coffee house with a cat room in Takagi, Miyakonojo, set in a traditional-style detached house with views over the surrounding fields. The owner, a lover of cats and books, added the cat room in October 2017, and the cafe keeps shelves of books alongside a menu of coffee, stewed hamburger steak with grilled vegetables and other home-style dishes. The cats can be watched from the cafe, and guests whose order reaches a set amount can go into the cat room after paying to stroke and play with a small group of resident cats.
