Minato, Tokyo, Japan
Katei Ryori Temari
Katei Ryori Temari is a small family-run izakaya beside Karasumori Shrine in Shinbashi, Minato, about two minutes on foot from the Hibiya exit of Shinbashi Station. An elderly proprietress and her son serve home-style Japanese dishes, chosen from platters lined up on the counter, with beer, highballs, sours and sake. Around seven to ten cats live in the bar and roam freely, walking along the counter, sleeping in boxes, playing and climbing onto customers' laps, and they are the reason many locals and overseas visitors come. It is a place to eat and drink among the cats rather than a cat cafe, with a counter and two small tatami seating areas, and it can fill up in the evening. Guests with cat allergies should take care. It opens in the evening from Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
