Forest Cat

Forest Cat is a cat cafe in Taihei Hatta, in the wooded foothills north-east of central Akita, best reached by car. The cat room and the cafe space are separate, and either can be used on its own. The cafe serves home-made meals such as hamburg steak, along with sweets and drinks, and the cat room is home to several cats, including a number of black cats. Time in the cat room is charged per 30 minutes, with extensions in 15-minute blocks when the room is not busy. From 2026 only visitors aged 12 and over may enter, including the cafe space, and socks must be worn inside. The last entry is at 4:30 PM. The cafe is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, opens on some public holidays that fall on those days, and closes for the winter season. Payment is cash only, and there is free parking.
