Yonzudo-tei
Morioka, Iwate3.0 mi / 4.8 km
Yonzudo-tei is a small cafe in an old Japanese house in Kawamecho, on the eastern edge of Morioka, where eight rescued cats live. It feels like visiting a relative's home: the cats keep a relaxed distance rather than demanding play, and conversation with the owner about cats is part of the appeal. Visits are limited to one hour per person and paid in advance, and visitors order from a short menu of drinks and toast. Because the cats are wary of small children, only visitors of junior high school age and older are admitted. The house can be hard to find, and booking ahead is recommended. The cafe is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and it also closes for events and some holidays, which are announced on Instagram. There is parking on site.

There is no fixed charge; visitors leave a donation towards the animals' upkeep, and cat food can be bought from a small capsule machine. The cat room is open every day, with the last entry at 3:45 PM. The site also has a dog run, kennel visits in the afternoon, a campground and a stone-oven pizza stand.
