Esaki Machiya Cafe

Esaki ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌is a small cafe in an old merchant townhouse in the Yame Fukushima old town that combines a pottery studio, a gallery and a small theatre space. Two shop cats, Hinata and Konatsu, both about three years old in 2026, wander the cafe and greet visitors, and the cafe asks people with cat allergies or who dislike cats not to come. The owners make the pottery used for drinks and food, and the menu includes Yame tea drinks, cakes, ice cream and a lunch of small dishes. Visitors can try on handmade samurai armour for photos, made for the local theatre troupe Yame Fukushima Bunpeiza. There is no cat charge; visitors order from the cafe menu. It is open from noon to 7 PM and closed on Mondays.
