Kurume, Fukuoka, Japan
Crepe to Neko no Ie
Crepe to Neko no Ie is a crepe shop in Kamitsu, Kurume, whose owner runs a private cat rescue from the same building. The upper floor is a cat room where rescued cats live while they wait for new homes, and it serves as a permanent adoption venue where people can watch the cats' everyday behaviour before applying. Volunteer staff look after the cats and can explain each one's personality and history. The shop says it is not a cat cafe, so there is no entry or time charge and the rescue work is funded by donations, though visits are limited to one hour, or 30 minutes for families with children, and prospective adopters get priority. Visits and adoption appointments are booked by phone, and adoption terms are discussed in person. Socks are required, and strong perfume is not allowed. The cat room is open every day in the afternoon.
