CATZ - Cats At The Zoo
CATZ, short for Cats At The Zoo, is a cat adoption lounge run by El Paso Animal Services inside the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens, by the zoo's train station. Adoptable cats roam freely in a glass-walled building furnished with sofas, perches, scratching posts and tunnels, with an outdoor catio, and zoo visitors can step inside to spend time with them. Visits are included with zoo admission and need no booking. Every cat is vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped. Adoptions are handled on site on a first-come, first-served basis for adults 18 and over with photo ID, and the low adoption fee includes the city pet license. The center opened in 2021 as part of the city's effort to find homes for more shelter cats, and it makes an easy addition to a day at the zoo.
