Hasami, Nagasaki, Japan
Cafe Chipie
Cafe Chipie is a rescue cat cafe in the hills of Nakaogo, Hasami, set in an old-style building that once housed a pottery kiln workshop. The cafe side, the larger of the two rooms, has antiques and cat goods and serves coffee with homemade cookies, and can be used without visiting the cats. A door separates it from a cat room of about six tatami mats with a large number of friendly rescued cats, sometimes including kittens, and the cafe rehomes its cats. Cat visits are a two-hour package with two drinks, visitors can move freely between the rooms, socks are required, and cat treats are sold. The owner also keeps snakes and other reptiles that visitors can sometimes handle. It opens from noon to 6 PM five days a week. The access road is narrow and parking is hard to find.
