Ubasti ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​‌‌‌​‌​‌​‌​​‌​‌‌‌‌‌‌‌​‌​‌​​​​‌‌⁠Cat Cafe & Lounge is a rescue cat cafe in Besant Nagar, Chennai, on 7th Avenue near Elliot's Beach. It opened in late 2025 in Uthandi on the East Coast Road as Chennai's first cat cafe and moved to a larger space in Besant Nagar in October 2026. Founded by Dr Tasmia Papa, the cafe fosters stray and abandoned cats and kittens, and the lounge is home to a large group of rescues, many of them available for adoption through the cafe's own screening process with follow-up after adoption. Entry to the cat lounge is charged per person on top of food and drink, and socks are mandatory inside. House rules ask visitors to let sleeping cats lie and to avoid flash photography. The cafe serves coffee, shakes, burgers, pizza and snacks, and also offers cat boarding, grooming and a small pet and gift shop.

Twisty ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​‌‌‌‌​‌​‌​‌‌​​‌​​​‌​​​‌‌​​​​​‌​​⁠Tails is a pet-themed restaurant on the second floor of RVR Towers on Khader Nawaz Khan Road in Nungambakkam, Chennai. Opened in 2018 as a dog-themed restaurant, it added a separate cat room in 2021 and now keeps resident dogs and cats in their own pet rooms, set apart from the dining area. Visitors do not need to own a pet: they pay a per-person fee to spend time in the dog and cat rooms, where staff supervise the animals and let guests pet, play with and feed them. The fee can be adjusted against the restaurant bill. The menu is a multi-cuisine mix of pastas, pizzas, Indian dishes and desserts, and has included non-vegetarian food since 2026. The restaurant also has a party hall for birthdays and events and runs office visits with its resident pets.

Auroville, Tamil Nadu

Eat ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​‌​‌​‌​​‌‌​‌‌​‌​‌‌​‌​​‌​​‌‌​​​‌‌​⁠Pussy is a cat and dog themed cafe on Auroville Main Road in Kuilapalayam, on the edge of Auroville near Puducherry. It moved here from White Town, Puducherry, in March 2025 and bills itself as the area's first cat and dog cafe. A separate room houses its resident cats, mostly Persians, and a play zone holds its resident dogs, both set apart from the dining area. Visitors pay a small entry fee per person to go into the animal areas. The large cafe serves pizzas, pasta, barbecue chicken, continental plates, hot chocolate and desserts, and also has a pool table and pottery classes. It holds an early-morning coffee rave every Sunday and takes table reservations by phone.
