Cats and Cookies
Angers, Pays de la Loire
Cats and Cookies is a bar à chats and coffee shop on Rue de la Roë in central Angers, a few minutes from Place du Ralliement. Opened in August 2020 as the city's first cat bar, it is home to about a dozen cats placed by local rescue associations, all available for adoption; the owners act as volunteer foster carers, and the cats are sterilised and vaccinated before they arrive. The cats have high perches, a private glass conservatory and an outdoor courtyard reserved for them. Adoption follows regular visits to get to know a cat, then an application. More than 345 cats had been adopted by early 2025. Visitors can walk in without booking, and lunch tables can be reserved. The menu has homemade pastries such as brookies and tiramisu, organic or local drinks, burgers and bagels. It has board games and hosts game nights and sewing workshops.

Mia House
Le Mans, Pays de la Loire
Mia House is the first bar à chats in the Sarthe, on Rue Victor Bonhommet in central Le Mans, between Place de la République and Place de l'Éperon. Open since June 2019, it is a cosy lunch spot and tea room where up to seven cats roam freely among the tables. The cats are placed by animal protection associations and are available for adoption, and the cafe counts more than 250 adoptions since it opened. Visitors order from an inexpensive menu of homemade lunch dishes that change with the seasons, with vegetarian options, savoury and sweet waffles, cookies, milkshakes, organic teas and hot chocolates. Tables can be booked for lunch only, by phone or through the cafe's social media; afternoons are walk-in. Children are welcome. The cafe is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Le Chalet
La Roche sur Yon, Pays de la Loire
Le Chalet is a bar à chats on Place du Théâtre in the centre of La Roche-sur-Yon, next to the municipal theatre. Styled as a modern mountain chalet, it has two rooms: a lounge where visitors spend time with the cats, and a cafe room for drinks and food. All the cats come from the Vendée association Le Cœur sur la Patte 85 and are available for adoption after a settling-in period and a compatibility assessment; adoptions are handled by the association on application. The cats are a mix of adults and young cats, and the website lists the current residents. Visitors order from a menu that runs from homemade pastries, hot chocolates and teas to cocktails, local beers, wine and charcuterie and cheese boards, so it also works as an afterwork bar. The bar is closed on Mondays and opens in the afternoon on most other days.
