The Purrfect Pour Cat Cafe is Lincolnton's first cat cafe, on Vandiver Drive next to Miracle-Ear, and opened in April 2024. Half of the space is a coffee shop serving coffee, wine, craft beer and baked goods, where guests can also work on a laptop, and the other half is a cat lounge with about twelve adoptable cats from the rescue partner Angels to Animals. Lounge visits are one hour, priced per person with a higher weekend rate, and reservations are recommended; a few walk-in places are kept each hour, sometimes for shorter visits. Children must be at least 7 during regular hours, and younger children can come to Kitty Time sessions on Wednesday and Saturday mornings or with a private room booking. The lounge holds up to 12 guests at a time. About 700 cats have been adopted from the cafe.

Mac Tabby Cat Cafe - Salisbury
Salisbury, North Carolina
Mac Tabby Cat Cafe in Salisbury is a cat cafe on South Main Street in historic downtown Salisbury, a block from Bell Tower Green, in a building that was the Victory Theater from 1915 to 1956. It opened in May 2023 as the third Mac Tabby, after the Charlotte and Concord cafes. The cafe and the cat lounge are separate: the cafe serves coffee, wine, craft beer, smoothies and baked goods, and the lounge holds about twelve adoptable cats from Princeton's Meow, the cage-free cat adoption facility of the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County. Lounge visits are one hour when reserved online, with a weekend rate, and shorter 30-minute visits are offered to walk-ins when there is room. Guests must be 7 or older; younger children can come to Kitty Time on Saturday mornings or with a private room booking.

Mac Tabby Cat Cafe Concord
Concord, North Carolina
Mac Tabby Cat Cafe Concord is the second branch of the Mac Tabby group, on Market Street in historic downtown Concord, a short walk from the city parking decks and less than five miles from Interstate 85. It occupies an 1886 building with exposed brick and wooden beams, a bar made from old pine and a covered front porch. The cafe serves coffee, smoothies, pastries, beer and wine and is open to anyone, while the separate cat lounge holds adoptable cats from Princeton's Meow, a Concord rescue. Lounge visits are paid per person, either as one-hour reserved sessions or shorter walk-in visits when space allows. Guests must be 7 or older during regular hours, with Saturday morning sessions and whole-room bookings for younger children. Unlike the NoDa branch, the Concord cafe is on ground level and fully wheelchair accessible. It opened in May 2021.

Humane Society of Charlotte Cat Cafe
Charlotte, North Carolina
The Humane Society of Charlotte runs a small cat cafe inside the retail center of its animal resource center on Parker Drive in west Charlotte, near Westover Hills. Each day one to three adoptable cats from the shelter spend time in the cafe room, where visitors can sit with them, work on the free Wi-Fi or simply stop by to see the cats. Entry is free; coffee and a range of sweet and salty snacks are sold at low prices. The same room is the shelter's retail shop, selling treats, toys and clothing for cats and dogs, and anyone who connects with a cat can start an adoption through the Humane Society. The wider center also handles dog and cat adoptions and runs a spay and neuter clinic. It is a much smaller and quieter setup than a dedicated cat cafe.

Meowter Banks Cat Café
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
Meowter Banks Cat Café is the only cat cafe on the Outer Banks, on North Croatan Highway at milepost 4.5 in Kitty Hawk. It opened in 2025 and is veteran-owned and woman-owned. The cafe serves coffee, specialty drinks and pastries from local bakeries with no entry fee, and a large window looks into the cat lounge, where adoptable cats and kittens from local shelters live while they wait for homes. Lounge visits are paid by the half hour or hour, with lower rates for children aged 7 to 10, and socks or shoe covers are required. Walk-ins are taken first come, first served, but booking online or calling ahead is recommended. Guests must be 7 or older during normal hours, and children 6 and under can visit at set Saturday morning times. The cafe also sells cat-themed merchandise, offers cat boarding at the Meowtel and hosts hands-on events.

The Farmer's Cat Cafe
Fayetteville, North Carolina
The Farmer's Cat Cafe is Fayetteville's first cat cafe, on Gillespie Street at the corner of the service road, and opened in February 2025. It is family-run and combines a coffee shop, rotating local food trucks and a room of adoptable cats and kittens supplied by its partner rescue, T.A.R.A. Rescue. The cafe serves coffee drinks, smoothies and pastries, and the owners plan a neighborhood farmers market with American-grown produce. Visits with the cats are booked as separate cat time sessions with a per-person fee, and the cat sessions run on their own schedule, which can differ from the coffee shop's hours. Anyone who connects with a cat can apply to adopt through the rescue. The cafe cannot take in cats from the public.

Charlie's Cat Cafe
Monroe, North Carolina
Charlie's Cat Cafe is a nonprofit cat cafe on North Main Street in downtown Monroe, run by Charlie's Angels Animal Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) rescue. The sanctuary pulls cats from high-intake shelters and takes in some local strays, has them vetted, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and houses them in the cafe's cat lounge until they are adopted. The cafe counter is separate from the lounge and sells coffee, beer, wine, soda and pastries along with pet supplies, local art and merchandise, so anyone can stop in without a fee. Time with the cats is charged per person, either as one-hour reservations booked online or shorter walk-in visits when space allows, and private hours for small groups can be booked. Visitors must be at least 7. The cafe is named after Charlie, a rescued cat, and the sanctuary also runs a barn cat program.

Cool Cats Cafe and Lounge
Jacksonville, North Carolina
Cool Cats Cafe and Lounge is a family-owned cat cafe on Gum Branch Road in Jacksonville, Onslow County, within reach of Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station, and opened on July 31, 2026. The owners modeled it on a small cat cafe they visited in Florida on a spring break trip. Every cat comes from Onslow County Animal Services and is available for adoption, and 25 cats had been adopted within the first month. Guests book 30-minute or 60-minute sessions in a separate cat lounge, with sessions starting on the half hour and a ticket for each guest aged one and over. All ages are welcome, but children under 16 must be supervised, with one adult for every three children. Socks stay on in the lounge. The cafe area sells packaged snacks and drinks, and no outside food or drink is allowed.

Help Meowt Catfe
Newton, North Carolina
Help Meowt Catfe is a nonprofit cat cafe and adoption lounge on West NC 10 Highway in Newton, near Hickory, run by the rescue group Help Meowt Catawba; it opened with a soft opening on October 24, 2026. The building has a cat-free cafe serving coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh juices and sparkling teas, plus packaged foods such as soups, plant-based cheeses, chocolates and jams, and lunch boxes for children. Large windows look into two cat lounges: the Nature Lounge for adult cats and the Ocean Lounge for younger cats and kittens, with about 24 adoptable cats in all. Lounge sessions last about 45 minutes, with the first starting at 12:15 PM. A session costs $7 for adults and $5 for children aged 5 to 16, seniors and veterans, and children under 5 go in free with a paying adult; monthly memberships start at $20. The lounges are walk-in only, first come, first served, and drinks from the cafe can be taken in. Every family signs a waiver, and clean socks are required (the cafe sells them, or you can use free shoe booties). Children under 5 are admitted only at set times, and children 16 and under must be with an adult. Adoptions go through an application and a virtual home check, with no same-day adoptions. All profits fund the group's rescue and community cat work, and the building also offers cat boarding.

Charlotte, North Carolina
Wicks & Whiskers is a candle-making studio with a foster kitten lounge on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood, Charlotte. Guests pour their own scented soy candle at the candle bar, then spend time in the Kitten Klubhouse, a closed-off room with its own air filtration where kittens and young cats from Killer Kitties Rescue, a nonprofit based in Oakboro, live while they wait for adoption. The kitten room can also be booked on its own as a 50-minute visit, and there is a combined candle and kitten package as well as private bookings of the whole space for groups. Reservations are recommended and walk-ins are taken when there is room. Visitors who fall for a kitten apply to adopt through the rescue, and in-store donations go straight to it. The shop also sells pre-made candles, candle care tools and branded merchandise.

Beautiful Together Cat Cafe
Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Beautiful Together Cat Cafe is the cat lounge of Beautiful Together Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit rescue on 83 acres of farmland in rural Chapel Hill, about 15 minutes from the UNC campus. The cafe opened in September 2025 on the second floor of the sanctuary's farmhouse-style welcome and adoption center, a bright room with floor-to-ceiling windows over the pastures, sofas, a coffee bar and an outdoor deck. Rescued cats, many pulled from crowded North Carolina shelters, roam the room while they wait for adoption, and visitors book a visit online to spend time with them; kittens may be seen by request. The cafe and the lobby can also be booked for private parties and group meetings, and there is a conference room with resident cats. The sanctuary also rescues dogs, horses and donkeys, runs an on-site clinic and youth programs, and has walking trails and free parking.

Catopia at North Star
Wilson, North Carolina
Catopia at North Star is a cat adoption lounge and gift shop on Green Street in historic downtown Wilson, and the town's first cat lounge. Owner Wendolyn Moore runs it in a house-like setting where adoptable rescue cats and kittens roam freely, so visitors can see their personalities before deciding whether to adopt. Visits to the cats are arranged by text message to reserve a time, and the lounge is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday afternoons. The shop sells cat-themed goods and work by local artists, and the space also hosts monthly artisan workshops such as beginner stained-glass classes. Guests who do not plan to adopt are welcome to come and spend time with the cats.
