Katzentempel ⁠‌‌​​‌​‌​​​​‌‌‌‌​‌​​‌‌‌​‌‌‌‌‌​​​‌​‌​​​‌​‌⁠Leipzig Ost is a vegan cat cafe and restaurant on Nürnberger Straße, beside the Grassi Museum, a short walk from Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, the university and the city centre. Opened in September 2018 as Leipzig's first cat cafe, it is a franchise branch of the Katzentempel chain and has more cats than any other Katzentempel: nine resident cats from animal welfare backgrounds, some of them former street cats from Crete, move freely around the dining room. The cats are permanent residents rather than adoptable, and older cats retire to private homes. There is no entry fee; guests order from a fully plant-based menu of breakfasts, bowls, burgers and cakes, and reserving a table is recommended. Monday evenings are board game nights, and weekday mornings have a flat-rate drinks offer for working or reading among the cats. Cat sponsorships and merchandise are available.

Opened in 2022 as the second Leipzig branch of the Katzentempel franchise, it has a calm, plant-filled interior with climbing walls designed to feel like a small jungle. Seven resident cats from animal welfare backgrounds live here, including three-legged Hector and one-eyed Kakashi; they are permanent residents, not up for adoption. House rules ask guests not to wake or pick up the cats and to let them choose when to make contact. There is no entry fee: guests order from the chain's fully plant-based menu, served from breakfast to dinner, and reserving a table is recommended. Wednesday evenings are board game nights, and weekday mornings have a flat-rate drinks offer for working or reading.
