Nekonotobira
Inagawa, Hyogo
Nekonotobira is a cafe with an attached rescue cat shelter in the countryside of Kitatawara, Inagawa, in the northern Hanshin area. It is about 30 minutes by bus and on foot from Hiso-Chuo Station on the Nose Electric Railway. The cafe is run under the supervision of a local dermatology clinic and serves fermented, plant-based food that suits vegans and people avoiding wheat. Time with the cats is part of supporting the shelter: visitors order a lunch, cake or churros set, then each group spends about 15 minutes with the rescued cats, depending on how the cats are feeling. Reservations are recommended, and lunch must be booked by the day before. The shelter holds adoption events for its cats. The cafe is closed from Tuesday to Thursday.
