LA-HOJU
Tamba Sasayama, Hyogo
LA-HOJU is an adoption-focused rescue cat and dog cafe in an old farmhouse surrounded by hills and fields in Konda, the Tamba pottery district of Tamba-Sasayama. It is run by the general incorporated association Tamba-Sasayama Inu Neko Tomo no Kai, and all of its cats and dogs are rescues. Cats live in three rooms: Shaku-an, the busiest room, holds cats looking for adoptive homes that visitors can play with; Mochi-an houses shy permanent resident cats, watched from outside the room; and Renta-an is a tatami room that looks into Mochi-an through a glass window. Visits are by reservation only, with each group booking the space privately, and are charged by the hour with a bottled drink included. A full-day plan is also offered, and visitors who only want to play with the cats are as welcome as prospective adopters. A dog run is also available.
