Kattencafé Op z'n Kop

Kattencafé Op z'n Kop is a cat cafe on Oude Ebbingestraat in the centre of Groningen, about a minute's walk from the Grote Markt. Hielkje Wester opened it in February 2016 as the second cat cafe in the Netherlands. Furnished like a living room, it is home to about ten cats adopted from animal shelters, who live there permanently and have a private room to retreat to. Guests pay a small entrance fee towards the cats' care, plus their food and drinks: coffee, tea, homemade cakes, breakfast and sandwiches, as well as high tea and high coffee, including vegan versions. Booking a table is advised, especially at weekends and in school holidays. The cafe runs movie nights, cat bingo, seasonal brunches and a private VIP arrangement, and has an online shop with cat merchandise whose sales support the cats. Visitors with children are asked to read the cafe's guidelines first.
