早初 ZAO CHU Entry Time
ZAO CHU Entry Time (早初) is a brunch and coffee shop in a three-storey old house at No. 165, Chengdu Road in Wanhua District, Taipei, about 8 to 10 minutes on foot from Exit 6 of Ximen MRT Station. Three female cats live here around the clock and are a big part of its appeal: A-Bu, a calico; Tai-ge, an almost white cat and the calmest of the three; and Ou-mai, a young black cat. Staff ask guests to read a cat's mood before petting, as two of them may give a small nip. Ordering works by picking an illustrated postcard from the wall, ordering and paying at the counter and collecting your food; the card is yours to keep, and the shop will post it to you or anyone else up to three years later. Each guest orders at least one drink, there is no time limit, and seating is upstairs, up steep stairs, with a craft and gift shop on the second floor. It takes no reservations, so arrive before 11 AM on busy holidays. Children are welcome, and visiting pets must be carried or kept on a lead. It is open 10 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays and to 5 PM at weekends (last order 3:30 PM), closed on Wednesdays, with holiday hours announced on Instagram.
