Whiskerville Kitty Cat Cafe
Whiskerville Kitty Cat Cafe is Belmont's only cat cafe, on Beaty Road west of Charlotte. Foster cats and kittens live in a cage-free Kitty Cat Lounge while they wait for adoption, in partnership with Cat Smart Coalition, a Gaston County trap-neuter-return group whose volunteers raise the cats until they are fully vaccinated. Visits to the lounge are paid by admission and can be booked online; walk-ins are taken when there is room, since guest numbers are limited. Everyone entering signs a waiver, children of any age are welcome with a parent, and visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Cats are not to be picked up. It is not a full cafe: there is a self-serve coffee and tea bar, a drinks cooler and prepackaged snacks, plus a cat-themed gift shop. The owner also hosts crafts, painting, yoga and book club events.

Cool Beans Cat Cafe
Gastonia, North Carolina9 mi / 14 km
Cool Beans Cat Cafe is Gaston County's first cat cafe, set in a converted house with a front porch and parking on South Chester Street in downtown Gastonia, across from the county government buildings. The coffee shop serves espresso drinks, tea and other drinks with baked goods and snacks, and there is a small shop area and a shelf of books. In a separate cat room, visitors spend time with a small group of adoptable rescue cats, some of them with special needs. Color-coded collars show which cats are happy to be approached. Cat room visits are charged per person for 30 minutes or an hour, and children are welcome. The cafe opened on East Main Avenue and moved to the house in spring 2025 under new owner Jenny Motes, who has added events such as live music and paint-and-sip evenings.

Humane Society of Charlotte Cat Cafe
Charlotte, North Carolina9 mi / 15 km
The Humane Society of Charlotte runs a small cat cafe inside the retail center of its animal resource center on Parker Drive in west Charlotte, near Westover Hills. Each day one to three adoptable cats from the shelter spend time in the cafe room, where visitors can sit with them, work on the free Wi-Fi or simply stop by to see the cats. Entry is free; coffee and a range of sweet and salty snacks are sold at low prices. The same room is the shelter's retail shop, selling treats, toys and clothing for cats and dogs, and anyone who connects with a cat can start an adoption through the Humane Society. The wider center also handles dog and cat adoptions and runs a spay and neuter clinic. It is a much smaller and quieter setup than a dedicated cat cafe.

The space is split: a coffeehouse serving coffee, pastries, craft beer and wine, and a separate cat lounge with about a dozen adoptable cats from Princeton's Meow, a local rescue. Visits to the lounge are paid per person, as one-hour reserved sessions or shorter walk-in visits when space allows, and drinks can be taken in with the cats. Guests must be 7 or older during regular hours, with Saturday morning sessions and whole-room bookings for younger children. Access is by a stairwell only. The first Mac Tabby opened in 2017 and moved to NoDa in 2019; branches followed in Concord and Salisbury.

Wicks & Whiskers is a candle-making studio with a foster kitten lounge on Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood, Charlotte. The kitten room can also be booked on its own as a 50-minute visit, and there is a combined candle and kitten package as well as private bookings of the whole space for groups. Reservations are recommended and walk-ins are taken when there is room. Visitors who fall for a kitten apply to adopt through the rescue, and in-store donations go straight to it.
