Mac Tabby Cat Cafe Charlotte is the original branch of a small North Carolina cat cafe group, on the second floor of a historic building on North Davidson Street in NoDa, two blocks from the 36th Street light rail station. The space is split: a coffeehouse serving coffee, pastries, craft beer and wine, and a separate cat lounge with about a dozen adoptable cats from Princeton's Meow, the cat adoption facility of the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County. Visits to the lounge are paid per person, as one-hour reserved sessions or shorter walk-in visits when space allows, and drinks can be taken in with the cats. Guests must be 7 or older during regular hours, with Saturday morning sessions and whole-room bookings for younger children. Access is by a stairwell only. The first Mac Tabby opened in December 2017 as Charlotte's first cat cafe and moved to NoDa in 2019; branches followed in Concord and Salisbury.

The Humane Society of Charlotte runs a small cat cafe inside the retail center of its animal resource center on Parker Drive in west Charlotte, near Westover Hills. Foster cats and kittens live in a cage-free Kitty Cat Lounge while they wait for adoption, in partnership with Cat Smart Coalition, a Gaston County trap-neuter-return group whose volunteers raise the cats until they are fully vaccinated. Visits to the lounge are paid by admission and can be booked online; walk-ins are taken when there is room, since guest numbers are limited. Everyone entering signs a waiver, children of any age are welcome with a parent, and visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Cats are not to be picked up.
