Tabby's Place: a Cat Sanctuary
Tabby's Place is a cage-free cat sanctuary on US Route 202 in Ringoes, Hunterdon County, about 20 minutes northwest of Princeton. Opened in 2003, the nonprofit is home to around 100 cats at a time, many of them seniors or cats with special needs, including cats with feline leukemia, FIV and paralysis, who live in sunny themed suites linked by tunnels and outdoor catios. It is not a cafe, but the public is welcome to visit the cats every day in the afternoon, either on a guided tour or simply to spend time in the cat rooms. Walk-ins are accepted when staff are available, though appointments are encouraged. Some of the cats are available for adoption through a screening process, while others live out their lives at the sanctuary. Children can join the Paws to Read program, reading aloud to the cats.
