Nekomata is a Japanese-style café à chats on Rue Lafaurie de Monbadon in central Bordeaux, between Place Tourny and Place Gambetta, reached by tram D (Fondaudège-Muséum) or tram B (Gambetta, Quinconces). Nine resident cats, Hime, Hoshi, Tora, Kuro, Kumo, Yuki, Kōyō, Kami and Maru, came from local shelters including the SPA's Fondaudège house, the Potron-Minet refuge and Aid'animaux 33, and they have a private room they can use at any time. As in Japanese cat cafés, visits are charged by time, with one-hour, 90-minute and two-hour formulas that each include a drink from the menu, and last entry is an hour before closing. Guests swap their shoes for slippers. The menu has bubble tea, onigiri and other Japanese snacks, and there is a manga library and a zen inner courtyard used in warmer months. Booking is recommended.
